Yes and so have the sabres....Let me ask you what are the other alternatives? - PhillaBully
Wait. Let Ghost, Morin, Hagg and Sanheim develop and eventually take over. Judging by how far a long on their development they seem to be, the defense could look like this next year:
AMac-Coburn
Streit-Morin
Ghost-Grossmann/Schenn
That's not bad for a transitional team like the Flyers. They could also see if they could sign a UFA for a year or so. Or maybe MDZ proves worthwhile a they give him another year. |

Trading Streit seems like an odd move considering how dependent the team is on the top PP unit, unless you are trying to tank, which the Flyers will never do.
In my view trading for Myers would be to upgrade the team. It's not part of giving up on the season.
And AMac doesn't need a stud next to him to be a solid second pairing guy. He was excellent with Streit last year in limited minutes, and decent with LSchenn (they were miles better than the MDZ-LSchenn poop-fest). He has only struggled here when played with Coburn on the top pairing. - Feanor
AMac has actually been pretty good this season, relatively speaking. He looked fairly good in the NJ game, although he sucked just like the rest of the team in the 3rd against Montreal. |

part of me thinks with a few injuries this team is closer to mcdavid than they are making the playoffs.
someone brought up last seasons success (if called that) was in part due to the team being relatively healthy all season long which is a rare feat. doubt it happens again. - moylander
Yup, the entire D and nearly every key forward stayed healthy last year. No chance that's happening again.
And, even when healthy, this team is not as good as last years.
Timonen > MDZ
Hartnell > Umberger
Gonna be a long season, IMO

Nope. I just said he might be. Never said it was a given. Giroux is a known NHL quantity, while McDavid is not. |

I think MacDonald's shortcomings are being covered up by Schultz. |

Guess they are determined to make B Schenn a winger. Hope it works out, not holding my breath. On another topic, who gets called up to replace Grossmann if he can't go? |

Amac is not a first pairing guy and as much as i would like to bring morin and ghost up i think that they would need another year..
Id rather have
Myers/coburn first pair than a amac/coburn

Hey, I'm with you on the trade being something that would/should never happen.
The value of that 1st-overall pick this year does exceed Claude Giroux, though. |

Lombardi: cant fit that under the cap without getting rid of too many core players that we've won with. sorry.

Yeah, seriously, everyone who bashed Coburn is seeing his worth to the team, same if AMac were down.
Not saying they would have survived the worst period to memory with Coburn in, (3rd period, Saturday), but it didn't help matters.

Morin almost made the team this year and Ghost already has NHL offensive ability so another year in the minors might be worthless. I'm all for givning these guys time but at some point, it will become detrimental. If Ghost and Morin aren't ready to play next season, it worries me that they aren't developing well. Especially Ghost, who's older and would have one AHL season under his belt. |

I don't think Myers is that much of an upgrade over AMac and I wouldn't want to give up him and Brayden Schenn and/or a pick/prospect to find out. |

You wanted BSchenn moved back to center?
I know he prefers to play there, but I don't think he has the hockey sense or faceoff ability to be a success there. |

Screw that, bump Read up to the 2nd line. He's much better than Schenn. And Couturier should be centering 2nd line.

It probably does. So would the Tavares pick, but I'll take Giroux. Also, I'll take the pick we currently have and hope it turns into another Giroux-type pick (assuming it's not a high lottery pick). Would you rather have Giroux and possibly another, younger Giroux, or the #1 pick this year? |

The team that finishes last only has a 20% chance of getting the first pick. We don't even need to finish last guys!! One of these years, a team in the 5-8% chance will win that pick. We're owed some karma after losing Kane. This is the year |

Eklund getting my hopes up for Tyler Myers. This guy on the right team could still blossom into a number one defenseman but we'd have rip apart our team to get him. |
