That's the thing, they won't "need" another top 4 defenseman for a couple of years. This team is bad right now. Whether you want to call it a "tank" or not, this team is one of the worst, if not the worst, team in the league. And that's not going to change for a couple of years, no matter how many cliches and other forms of rhetoric Coach Theo or anyone else in the front office throws around.

I think many of us (I'll lump myself in that crowd) expected more effort. The first 2 periods of the Chicago game were more what I expected out of this team...then the 3rd period happened.

Not saying I expect them to hang with the likes of Chicago, but to come back after quickly going down 2-0 and then tying it and keeping the 2nd period even, that was at least the effort I had hoped for this season.

The Sabres have 57 shots on goal in 3 games, and that's after "decent" totals of 45 through the first 2. That's just sick

He was a "scoring" d-man last year is all I can figure.

8 of his 28 points last year were on the PP. 28 points would have been good for 2nd among Sabres d-men last year (i know, different team, but just pointing out that he was decent in getting points).

Furthermore, he was a "scoring" D-man on a team that the analytics folks have pegged as the equivalent to the Toronto Maple Leafs of last year. That doesn't tell you everything, but it absolutely should make you wary.
