There was a time when these were easy for me. I haven't taken a math class in a while though. - PhillySportsGuy
Well, if you know the distance and the relative speeds, it's pretty easy. |

Karlsson's been a full-time NHLer for five seasons, been a minus-player in three of them, including a -30
Plus-minus is only a snapshot; we all know that. But he's not a great one-on-one defender and only an average team defender - AllInForFlyers
Yes. I agree.
Currently, Letang, Subban, Suter, Weber, and even Karlsson are adequate or better in their own zone - jmatchett383 |

EK's defense is always overlooked, and I'm not sure why. I don't have a problem with pinching. I don't have a problem with headmanning the puck. I have a problem with doing it irresponsibly. - jmatchett383
I could and would stomach MDZ's defensive play if he could put up 70+ points a year. |

Top 2 conversation topics on Sens talk-radio/message boards: Jason Spezza is a loser, Erik Karlsson plays terrible D. It's now down to one. - Tomahawk
And according to this board, Carter was overrated, Carle couldn't play defense, Stevens was the worst coach ever, Couturier was/is a bust... |

That's the thing. I don't care about possession stats. He needs to outscore his deficiencies. I know it's early, but I've seen little evidence that he'll do that. I hope I'm wrong. |

So far, that's only been championed since we signed him. I'm talking about things that were discussed for years. |

I don't know that this franchise/coaching staff/fanbase can handle Erik Karlsson's last season, which was 20 goals, 54 assists and a -16
I really don't know that we could -- there'd always be someone wondering about the -16 |

That obviously had nothing to do with the fact that Ottawa was abysmal last year and everything to do with EK. |

MDZ should play with Coburn. He needs a partner who can skate back quickly to cover for him, and Coburn needs a guy who can handles most of the puck moving. - Feanor

Judging by how harshly Claude Giroux's been judged for his defensive lapses, I would say no. |

But the Flyers are looking fairly abysmal right now, yet MDZ's the problem?

He's on his third team in 8 months. He's made horrible decisions away from the puck (generally) from the moment he arrived.
I don't think he's part of the solution.
But if you wanna generalize a statement I made and flip it around, I guess Wayne Simmonds is the problem. |

No, you generalized the statement I made by saying that it was Karlsson's fault that Ottawa was abysmal. I used the same paradigm you created.
Ottawa has accepted the fact that Karlsson's offense outweighs his defense. It's fair to question whether the Flyers and this fanbase would accept a defensemen under that premise |

If you score as much as Karlsson, your possession stats will be good. You have to be a good possession player to score a lot because you need the puck to score. |

The team around Karlsson wasn't all that great and the goal tending wasn't anything to write home about. He's not on the same level as Keith, Doughty, Pietrangelo and Weber in terms of two way play but Karlsson is in a class of his own offensively. He needs more sheltering than the others in his own end. |

Sounds like Read asked to go back to RW because he sees the ice better there and Berube agreed, so Umberger well be on the left.
Which I guess means the Read-Couturier-Simmonds line they tried all preseason is done for good. |
