Agreed. Schultz has held his own nicely but man did I hate him in the preseason.
- SuperSchennBros

You know what you're getting with Schultz. More often than not, the puck's going up the boards in the defensive zone or in deep in the offensive zone. No real frills or anything, but it basically a guy who won't kill you if he's used somewhat sparingly.

In all honesty, I view both MDZ and Schultz as nothing more than 6/7 defenders at this point in their career. There's a reason why no one wanted him until the Flyers had their hand forced by the Timonen injury. Saying one #6/7 is better than another 6/7 isn't really Earth-shattering.
- jmatchett383

This is exactly why I felt the picking on Luke Schenn nonsense yesterday was so goofy. I think you'll get improvement from Schenn if paired with the right guy but Del Zotto is on his third team in like 8 months. One of which thought he was so bad, they let him walk for nothing.

No it's not. But that's not really the point. The point is about persepctive. Many were excited about Del Zotto, but he's struggled a little bit in the season. Schultz for whatever reason, looked like he flat out couldn't play in pre season. But he's played well in the 2 games he has played.
- MJL

Didn't you yourself say that MDZ looked pretty awful in preseason? Maybe not in those words, but you did agree than a 19-year-old rookie looked better than him. Not that either player looked good, although I agree than Schultz looked like Hal Gill's grandfather in preseason.

Also, I think "some" were excited about MDZ, not really "many."

With Vinny hurt, Bill do you think it's a good idea to break that chemistry with the 4tg line and move Bellemare up? I know we need him to since Berube wants Schenn still on wing, but do you think our 4th line doesn't perform as fast paced and energetic now?

Grossmann has ebola and no homecoming ceremony for Patrick Maroon. Sad day.

I'm not Bill, but I think Jones earned himself a roster spot in camp, and I'd rather have him centering the 4th than the 2nd. PEB is the only real choice for the 2C spot.

"Well this is awkward."

Panthers vs Sens in Florida featured an announced attendance of just a whisker over 7,000 people.

Yea, well...I was watching the Devils/Panthers highlights on the NHL network and laughed at how many empty seats there were. Now, we're not talking about the bad seats here...there were a ton of center 6 seats just EMPTY! It proves my point that the 39 Devils fan base has increased to 47. I would have been embarrassed to show them highlights to be quite honest.

Yeah Briere!
I love that man. Glad to hear good things about him.

I may miss the first period tonight, so I'm praying I don't walk into them already down and out...

In all honesty, the way that thing has spread so quickly, it's the first "pandemic" that really worries me.

I used to work with a lady whose husband was from Miami. He said that the visiting team always had the majority of fans at Dolphins' home games. When they played a team like the Steelers, it was almost 90% Steelers' fans.

And AIDS was created by the govt and they're just sitting on the cure. I think they are waiting for Ryan Seacrest to get it.

Just a little example of how quick things can change in Hockey. In the pre season, many were very unhappy with how Nick Schultz looked. Now after 3 games, there's talk of him replacing another defenseman in the lineup when Coburn comes back.
Same thing with the up and down play in the first 3 games. It can change in a hurry. Of course it could also get worse.

- MJL

its not their play that concerns me...its the quality of opponents they face in the first 20 games...if they dont get it together soon they could be facing a insurmountable hole...

Ridiculous, just move em to Quebec or Seattle and admit that no one in SE Florida gives a rat's tush about hockey!

That's the main issue with Florida teams - a lot of the people that live their are displaced from other areas in the country and already have allegiances to other teams.

I went to the Eagles game a few years ago in that horrible stadium and half the crowd was Eagle fans....the only team they liked was the Heat but without the King they probably wont go

I agree. BSchenn is either going to be a successful LW here, or he's going to go somewhere else. Even without Vinny, the long term future at center is Giroux, Couturier, Laughton.
