We all know the D is a mess, but I'm really starting to be concerned about the forwards as well. I think a lot of them are overrated by us fans and perhaps by the organization.

Giroux is a world class player no doubt, but he is a bit below the Crosby/Toews level. Lets face it, he wasn't left off the olympic team because he grabbed Yzerman's ass.

Voracek and Simmonds are above average players, but not superstars.

Couturier is an excellent penalty killer and checker, but the jury is still out on whether he can succeed in a top 6 role.

Read and B Schenn are solid, but far from spectacular players and the rest are average or below average.

Sure the D is a mess, but they really need to find some top end talent up front as well. I think Hextall is a smart guy and has a plan. It wouldn't shock me in the least if this team struggles both this year and next before they put it all together. Hopefully they can draft some top end talent up front to go with their excellent group of D prospects in the next 2 drafts.

Gonna be a long winter.

Agreed. I wouldn't move Couturier easily, quality pk/shutdown centers are valuable, but he's not untouchable.

I find myself bored watching these games so far. outside of the 3 goal burst in the devils game, their game is just boring. I think this is the stage after anger, boredom caused by indifference.
