Doesn't surprise me, the only thing the Leafs can do is help other teams. They can't even help them selves...

0 shots on goals in his first 3 games. 2 yesterday. At least there is some improvement

What would it cost to get Myers out of BUF? Gilbert could then play on the 3rd pairing where he belongs.
- fidopro

I understand why they signed Weaver. But Gilbert, i don't.

A PP specialist who plays 2nd wave PP and more importantly, sucks at every other task.

I just don't get it.

That being said, Myers would be great on the second pair with Markov.

i think they signed Gilbert because they wanted to transition from a shot-blocking team to more of a puck possession team. it's why they brought in Gilbert, why Beaulieu is on the team, why they got rid of Gorges. it's why they brought in a big guy like Sekac and let Gionta go and replaced Briere with Parenteau. and if you watched, when Montreal's been at its best (2nd and 3rd periods against TO and WSH, third against Philly), that's the type of game they've played. can they do it consistently? hopefully by the middle of the season they can.

but let's ease up on Gilbert. he's being paid like a third pairing defenceman. it's not his fault he's being asked to play 22 minutes. i assume that isn't the long term plan and the hope is that the rookies evolve into guys who can take more minutes.

Eric made a good point about the D in general struggling through the first 4 games but we all knew that would be the case with adding in 2 guys like Beaulieu and Gilbert, to say nothing of a second rookie in Tinordi. it's easy to say they need to make a trade 4 games in but i'm quite certain they'll give this thing a good 2 months to gel a bit.
