It's (frank)ing mind boggling. I have no idea how Mac T is gonna find a legit top pair D Man tho. - Jeropotato
He's either got to wait for one to develop in the system or jump on one when they're made available.
In the meantime there's no excuse to rush your best D prospect and sit your best pair |

You can't. I can't remember the last time one was moved. There is thirty teams in the league, and less then thirty number 1 Ds. You've got to draft them and hope that they develop. |

I've becoming less and less convinced over time that you need to be hockey smart versus just having a second uncle that knows a guy or having played a bit. That is honestly all.
Actually, I'm not convinced of it anymore to be honest. What were MacT's qualifications to be a GM? "He used to coach the Oilers!"
What were Eakins qualifications? He coached the Marlies and got the hype train that comes with it. The Marlies weren't a team that succeeded because of the young Leaf picks. That Marlies team rode career AHLers in prominent positions. - DTF69
It's like that in all walks of life. Managers hire the devil they know (Mac T) over the devil the don't. Going outside the organization doesn't always help either (Tambo-Okay, bad example). |

I'd probably count Ehrhoff as a top pair signing. Hamuis, maybe?
As for trade maybe E Johnson, Goligoski(?), Byfuglien, Phaneuf |

It's early and they are playing 1 of if not the best team in the NHL
But a trade might shake things up...but what big C or big D is going waive for Edm?
That goes for TO as well |

Hey I know you guys know. You're all nice chaps, except that (frank)wit Iggysbff.
Honestly, as a Leafs fan, I get it. Trolled, ridiculed for ages and ages now.
But seriously, I don't know what exactly the cure is for the Oilers. Those last two goals. Where do you begin to solve this?
The young core must be losing interest, or becoming numb. The goalies are terrible (admittedly crazily ironic coming from a Leafs fan), the support cast is, well, nondescript. Is it the coach/is it the players?
Do you have to trade one of the 3 forwards (Eberle, RNH or Yakupov). Do you stay patient? Problem with patient is every new kid is coming into this
I dunno? And yes, the Leafs are poop with some terrible contracts. - walshyleafsfan
not sure I agree the goalies are terrible. fasth played brilliantly against Vancouver. considering the second half of that game, we probably didn't deserve a point.
those 2 early goals on him weren't easy. the first was in no way his fault. 3rd was abit ugly I guess. scrivens was solid in his time here last year.
ill give it a few more games...
the bold part scares me for sure.
dunno who's fault it is. the roster hasn't been good in years. this is a fact.
benching petry is a head scratcher, but anyone that says we wouldn't be getting steamrolled with those 2 (MM)in the lineup is kidding themselves.
we've been steam rolled many times with those two in the lineup
I don't think too many coaches make a huge difference with this roster. we've failed with many coaches. maybe its just abit worse with some of Eakins decisions. i dunno. its just bad all around
I think u hit the nail on the head. "wtf"??!!!
there are no easy answers here. its no one persons fault. its just a mess top to bottom. |

I used to work with someone who used to work administration for the Oilers. She was telling me that almost everyone hired there is because they are the son of an uncle that knows Pat Laforge.
She said she quit after about 9-10 months because all these people that were hired as favours were useless and she'd get poop on because she wasn't someone who had the inside track.
Good to know that is the kind of management in place at high levels of a 400 million dollar investment. |

I think so. There are guys who have been moved who are a tier down, Ehrhoff, etc. |

I'm thinking actual number ones.
Phaneuf is close. Buff was traded as a winger so I didn't really count him.
Burns? Jbo?
Goligoski and EJ were not really top pairing at all when traded.
Ehrhoff and Hammy are both top pairing guys, but they aren't number ones. |

Oilers should have made a move for Darcy Cumdumper this summer when Minny was thinking Backstrom/Harding. - As_I_See_It
goaltending isn't the problem. defensive breakdowns are. quality of shots have been crazy |

Phaneuf - Garnie
The funny thing is, I don't think that anyone hates Phaneuf as much as Leafs fans do. The guy eats up a ton of tough minutes, puts up respectable numbers. He gets hated on because he's not Shae Weber, and he probably shouldn't be captain, but he could help a lot of teams. |
