I think of all the assets you have he should be the last option. Eb, RNH, Yak all have value.

Question is, whats there value?

And I ask you that Honestly without hoping for some sort of RNH and 1 1st for ovechkin back.

The team needs stability IMHO and that can only come with leader ship and exprience. And Ference is not the guy for that job.

If you get ridd of your best player (Hall) you are commiting youself to rebuilding atleast another 2-3 years.

IMHO

- vancity787

And we said that 2-3 years ago. Like I said. Their is no really right answer. But I think its fifty fifty coach and fifty fifty team.

I think alot of your boys are too young that they make ill-advised plays. Actually downright embaressing plays. When we played you boys a week or two ago, And you guys have 4 guys in the corner? with Nick Bonino playing Solitare on his ass in the slot?

Somethings on Eakins here.

But it is defenitley a 50-50 split between the coach and the team. I dont think they're trying hard enough to embrace his system.

Im pretty sure before Our hockey game he didnt tell your entire team the chase the puck wherever it goes.

Good players on the oil, but deffinitly some maturity issues.

I dont think Eakins has lost the room, But I do think he needs to fair away from a players coach and have a bit more grittiness into his style rather than letting it roll of of everyones back.

That it for me. And Keep in mind im cheering for you guys. Im only throwing them under the bus as much as your are. (from an outside perspective ofcourse.)

A good coach probably won't fix weak goaltending or individual mistakes here and there, or turn offensive thinking defensemen into defensively sound ones. With Petry and Marincin playing and a better coach we still probably lose 4-1 with no RNH/Eberle and the inexperienced center depth that's the fault of MacTavish and Howson etc.

Eakins won't last long unless things turn around, but there's some things that are simply out of his control just like any coach. I still think we can climb the standings under him maybe, but we'll need some luck and improvement along the way and for him and MacT to get over their stupid presumed obssessions with some of our defensemen.

Absolutely agree with his statement 100%. You need the right balance of a fast paced game in the league but don't give your dmen as much leverage as they want. They need to know they're defend an and need to play like defenseman.

Don't mean they can't be offensive. Just means they need to know when to pick there spots.

Absolutely spot on.

Some guys are just not that good and/or prone to error (Nikitin/Hunt), or have never had that part of their game (schultz), or are mediocre at best and in decline (Ference). When you have a below average defense to start with (Which happens when you don't play your best ones) you should't expect an almost error free game, and unfortunately said errors have cost us. It's easy to rag on a coach for not having a defensively sound system but this team was never going to be defensively sound with some of the personnel we have. Like the other guy said its 50-50, so some of its on Eakins, but some of its out of hi scontrol, so every now and then Justin Schultz is gonna find himself in no man's land because its more or less a trait at this point.

Exactly. One man wrecking crew in that game. Just a little less solid than Jagr but faster, and ultimate hands.

Yeah they're a good team, I've played with them many a time. But there's only one Mogilny in that game, and he's unstoppable.

Edit: I put Mogilny in the middle, and no else ever touches the puck.

i see this with the oilers.
its weird.

mact sees us struggling to defend, so he goes after someone who first will actually sign and is a steady stay at home guy that can play the body.
but then we get down a goal and the same guys cant move the puck at all, and are struggling in an up tempo game. so we get away from those guys and keep going to the well with Schultz/hunt etc.

its like this viscious cycle where management doesn't see the huge value in two way guys like petry and marincin.
or so badly want to pigeon hole players into set roles and leaving us so easy to play against
"alright; we have 3 plugs that stay at home and defend.
and 3 small offensive only guys that cant defend for sh1t...perfect"

abit of an exaggeration, but its not far off

But yeah, on Eakins' end, the decisions on the defense may him get fired. its only 3 games in so he's got some time to see the light, but he's always seemed the stubborn type. I don't know how he thinks a defense without Petry and Marincin is our best, especially when they're (frank)ing healthy for christs sake.

Hunt is worse defensively than our last "pp specialist" MA Bergeron... and his idea of defense was to throw a guy into our lights out goalie in '06; he's not good enough to be on the Oil...

Let that sink in.

i just wasn't sure what u meant about not teaching offensive guys to even be sound defensively. u gotta be able to do that. or hes marc Bergeron

but totally agreed on the fundamental point. tippet wouldn't know what to do with this squad

Tippett at least knows with Yandle to shelter him to bring the best of him, but yet Schultz is our #1 guy when both Fayne and Petry are both more capable of the big minutes.
