Tonight should be an interesting early season test. Will the real New Jersey Devils please stand up? |

It's cool, we're playing Nabokov's corpse so this is hardly a test of our real offense. I want to see how we do against a real goaltender this year. |

This is true playing Nabakov tonight is nice and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Lightning come out a bit flat after such a dominating win last night. |

First test of the season, I watched their game last night and they made Montreal look bad. We get a goal or two early and I like our chances. |

Nabokov was playing with a terrible Islanders defense in front of him. Don't be misled by his stats. He is certainly over the hill, but still has gas left in the tank for one more season of compete-level play. Yzerman is no fool and I am sure the proper homework was done before considering Nabby.
As a Tampa fan, I have always dreaded the Devils. It is no secret that the Devils have had Tampa's number since day one. A big part of that was the smothering Devils trap system and the play of demi-god Brodeur. With Brodeur gone, we are feeling a little hope here in Tampa when it comes to our chances against the Devils.
I honestly cannot say how Schneider will be against Tampa - the sample size of previous games played is too small to draw meaningful conclusions from. Suffice to say, if Tampa is clicking on all cylinders, then Schneider will have his hands full. Montreal has a decent defense (including the 9-Million-Dollar-Man) and a great goalie, and Tampa turned Montreal's end of the ice into a blazing dumpster fire.
I look forward to watching ageless-wonder Jagr. I can't get enough of that guy. I just hope he forgets his Ensure before the game.
This should be a really good game. |

TG said that Myles Bell will get a minor league contract some time, it's not done, but what I don't understand is, why not just sign him to an entry deal like they did with Johnson, Thomson, and Black.
Also, according to the Wheat Kings GM, Q is close to signing an entry deal, he plays for the WK. |

Wait he's not in Albany now? Where the hell is he playing, isn't he way too old for juniors? |

I think he is with Albany, but I read on ILWT that he will be signed...eventually. I just don't understand why it's a minor league deal and not an NHL deal. Albany has 28 players still on their roster and they will be sending out players to the ECHL. The Devils don;t have a ECHL team this year, so guys will be sent to different teams.
Edit: It was the Wheat Kings voice who said about Q signing, not the GM. |

He was a high draft pick who's had trouble sticking in the NHL.

when did Matt Carle start playing on the bottom pairing? wasn't he a top UFA a year or two ago? |

He definitely hasn't lived up to the contract. Makes too many mistakes in his own end. You can see him on last seasons goals of the year getting worked by Nyquist and Hemsky. |

Is there really such a thing as a "tired team" right now? I feel like later in the year is when you need to actually take into account back-to-back nights when sizing up a team. |

It's all BS. Later in the year guys will be in better game shape from playing at a higher intensity then camp or preseason but right now guys are also healthier and fresher. Just show up and play. |

Connolly is a chronic underachiever. To be fair, he has never had any meaningful top-6 time, so it's hard to prove yourself playing short minutes on the 4th line. Honestly, I don't know what to think of him. He is long overdue to break out, or get out.
Carle is not a bust, but he is barely a top-4 guy. His strengths are skating and passing, not defense. He needs a solid possession partner. I would have paired him with Stralman. Carle needs a stay at home partner to cover his mistakes and so far he has been paired mostly with Sustr (talented but inexperienced). However, the pairing of Hedman and Stralman looks like dynamite, so I wouldn't break them up now. Ideally, a guy like Brewer would be good to pair with him, but Brewer is aging and slow.
