So, how did everything look tonight? Got home in time to see the 3rd but gamecenter decided no to work for some (frank)ed up reason - bobert836
Missed most of the first but it was pretty back and forth all night. Solid effort considering the opponent. |

I don't think we won three games in a row all of last season. |

they were flying pat us the first 10 min but after that we started passing better, hiting more and were lucky to get out of the 1st tied, mainly thanks to Cory
we were the better team in the 2nd, and was pretty even in the 3rd...1st and 2nd lines were very good tonight as was the defense minus that one guy |

Tampa was skating circles around us in the 1st but somehow they gradually settled down and we started controlling possession. Cory was phenomenal. No doubt Tampa is miles faster than us, but we were definitely the more poised/composed team. |

Usually you feel like when people pile on a veteran player it's usually because it's the "in" thing to do. Not this time. Salvador just needs to go.
But otherwise I got in for the third period and so pleased with so many facets of the team's performance. First off, their conditioning is first rate. Other than Salvador, they skated just fine against a very fast team, at least in the part I saw. And with the upgrade in talent is a noticeable upgrade in tempo and transition from defense to offense. I think the reason why Salvador looks so bad is because he is not at all a fit for quick transitions, especially when the other team transitions to quick offense. Our other D all have the mobility to handle it, but not only is he slow in straight-ahead speed, but his agility and quickness are so bad he's always off-balance or reaching to compensate for what his feet cannot do. It is what it is. Veteran presence or not, captain or not. Larsson is the better and more talented player, particularly for this system. It's a no-brainer.
I underestimated Cammalleri on the backcheck and on PK. He's been an excellent penalty killer and very good on the backcheck. He gives that missing piece. A swagger that was missing with his talent, energy and quick-strike ability.
I don't think this is a fluke either. This team is good. With potential to be real good.
Severson is fantastic. His play on that last PP was that of a 5-year vet. Kid reminds of a Duncan Keith/Scott Niedermayer hybrid. Yes, he's that good. |

i wasn't trying to make a joke, i was being serious, amidst the tragedy.
He's who came to mind. Vishnevsky was out of position too much, White couldn't see, Mottau was too weak.. but maybe more mobile and better positionally.. but still easily beat. Rachunek was a mid-tier guy that did a lot of things just ok, but nothing really good. |

I wonder how many people poo-poo'd the Schneider deal when it was made. Solid, solid goalie. - OzBolts
i can't recall a soul who poo-poo'd the Schneider trade. Top 10 goalie for the next 7+ years.. i'll take it. |

There HAS to be a trade. Santini is too good to be lost in a depth chart in a year or two. Unless he pulls a Kevin Hayes on us |

im starting to feel better and better about our team, was a little worried about the young defense but its the old grandpa that we have to watch out
i was worried that after the last 5mins of the 2nd period vs philly that was a bad sign, but since then the team is coming together
i know people like to rag on deboer about his line up choices but there is no denying that he is a smart coach
and SCHNEIDER!!!!! |

There were a good amount of fans who were upset that we didn't keep the draft pick and take a top forward. Those people don't talk anymore. |

Yeah I remember it that way too. There was an odd person here and there who wanted a forward in the draft but I feel like most people were very pleased with it. I know I was, and several others were too. |

Man did we really have random players back then. Makes me want to fire up the 360 and pop in nhl07 or 08 for a laugh |

at the time people wanted an offensive player and thats why they were questioning it, but wow i love that trade, schneider has shown he is worth it, especially since other teams apparently offered more (oilers come to mind) |

PDB has done an excellent job getting everyone (except one guy) to be productive and fit into the system. From an X and O standpoint he's clearly capable. His attachment to players and philosophies in certain situations has been questionable at times.
But give him a group with speed and transition ability and he can definitely do some things with it.

This was a problem for him even last year. His game has just slowed down too much in important areas.
Also, my first impression of Severson was Duncan Keith-lite, but he's looking more and more like a future #1 dman. |
