I think the injury was due to a hit along the boards prior to the fight

My god... Imagine what he would have done to Hamhuis if he wasn't injured.

Not sure if that fixes anything.... WD would have been a good coach for them.

Losing seems systemic there now. They have to shake it up somehow...

Samuelsson. until his body failed.

(unless you don't consider him top 6 but we were so thin at the time, that is where he played.)

But Booth didn't work out and he never addressed the need for another top 6 player who could score.

Higgins goal production did dry up when so many were saying he was on pace for 20+ before the calendar change.

Samuelsson wasnt brought in for the top six specifically and moved around the line up just like in Detroit. One of the best utility players in his day....

When Gillis brought in Booth and it wasnt working he came right out and said "I already made our top six acquisition. We are not currently looking for one". Fail.

Just like last year. Looks like Luo's slow starts may have been a symptom of AV

Read above. Im not talking about players who found themselves in the top six because of depth issues.

I have a big problem with the way our team is being coached. What is Willie doing? It's obvious that he's a rookie NHL coach because decisions being made are questionable at best.

Hanson is one of our best players and deserves more respect than is being shown by this coaching staff. He's trying to do too much out there to make up for the lack of preparation and glaring coaching mistakes. Willie should be listening to his players instead of trying to teach. Obviously hasn't shaken off the instincts of a minor league coach.

Kassian is one of the leagues premier power forwards. Playing him on the 3rd or 4th line is ludicrous. He's a predator and predators need time to hunt. Give him the ice time he's earned and watch opponents cower in the corners. Size and aggression wins in this league, not skill. Boston taught us that. Team management obviously has short memories.

Once again, Twins being played too much. Their skills are on the decline and it showed Saturday night. Selfish players. They have no idea how to use their teammates. Puck hogs extraordinaire. Might as well have kept Kesler and made him the captain. Kesler is the type of player you want your prospect to emulate. Not soft europeans.

What this team needs is a motivator, not a teacher. Most of these guys are vets and if they haven't learned the game by now they will never learn (that's a message to you Trevor and Jim). Big mistake firing one of the best motivators in NHL history. This team was on the right track, pieces were falling into place, and a new identity was being born. Torts is still on payroll right? Maybe it's not too late to right a wrong and get him back behind the bench.

So far, the start of this season has been a disaster.

the real reason Lou wanted to go to Florida

43. Roberto Luongo Florida Panthers $6,714,000 $2,790,870
40. Carey Price Montreal Canadiens $6,750,000 $3,354,737

Huge tax savings.

You got me thinking of the Luongo trade to FLA again. I remember a ludicrous statement by Tallon when asked about the trade:
"We're getting a great goaltender, a proven commodity," Tallon said. "You have to pay the price to get guys like this. You don't get Roberto Luongo for nothing. You have to pay the price, and obviously we paid a big price. Jacob is a great young goaltender with a lot of potential, but that's what you have to pay sometimes to get value."

How did Tallon say that without falling off his chair laughing?

Don't want to start splitting hairs but by responding I guess I am. I thought he was told he was going to be given every opportunity to play in the top 6 and was upset at times when he wasn't playing there... That was the bait to come to Vancouver- a chance to have a larger role and more opportunity than in Detroit.

When he was healthy, he was pretty good, added a different dimension to the pp and as the Sedins said, he played a more Canadian or North American style than Swedish.

But hey, if GMMG said he wasn't brought in to play top 6 and Booth was then I am glad they are all gone.

edit: Really, what I want to stress is Samuelsson was the only player that was brought in that could really score and be a scoring threat in the top 6. Maybe that wasn't Gillis' intention, I don't know and really it seems like Gillis and AV were often on different pages when it comes to player deployment.

After Samuelsson, the only other offensive player would be Higgins and after that maybe Santorelli... Thank God for the management change because we definitely were stagnating.

Well if you look at the video carefully you will see that Tallon looks like he is about to blow a load. What you don't see is Gillis under the table on his knees.

But all jokes aside, it is quite impressive that we can get free agents to sign in Canadian markets.

All kinds of people have played in the top six.... thats not where I was going with my post is all. Gillis was firm that Booth was his *top six* acquisition when asked if help was coming that deadline... its what he called it. Everyone else was brought in and were promised opportunity.... that's the hair we are splitting. Booth was the only move Gillis considered a top six trade apparently.... Higgins did better and was more healthy... they claimed he was brought in for the 3rd line at the time....

Here's an example... they have said a number of times they brought in Vrbada to have a right shot with the Sedins. I'd say he was brought in specifically for a top six role. I'll go on record a little prematurely and say it didnt take long to make a successful move for the top six.... something Gillis failed to do in his entire time here.
