Do you want 50pts and 300 hits a season from him or something?
- Herzeleid

Consistent play is all that's needed.

Something he hasn't done in his 2 full seasons.

I'll get excited about his play if it becomes consistent.

That said:

He had a very nice game tonight.

To each their own.

He can not tip if he wants as he is right there is nothing that says you have to. I guarantee you though servers have good memories and remember who the bad/no tippers are. The next time they come around you can bank on it they get ignored/sh!tty service.

i would have to agree with you here, like i said ive never left a bad tip before but there would be times that i think its justifiable, like indy's example

Did you? There is still no period at the end. If your are going to out smart a guy that has drAnk about 10 shots of whiskey you are going to have to wake up earlier than you did

Like I said in that instance I most likely would have tipped the bartender a $20, made sure the waitress saw it, and gave her the buck or two I would have given the bartender. But that's just me.

No out smarting needed. Its just opinions. Like I said. I still leave tips. Unless something warrants otherwise. I just feel its a stupid system thats been implemented. Thats all.

Where I'm from. The establishments have the employees put the tips together and then split them. And that's the way I've heard it was done from my waiter friends.

I know they are under paid. I take that into account when I tip. A lot goes into that equation and honestly the more they tell me about there personal life the more likely they are to get a better tip

Depends on the place and is different all over.

I know of many places that you keep what you make, pool everything together, and tip out the cooks.

With all honestly though. I do appreciate being able to have a conversation or a debate and it be civil. Cant do that with many other fans. Poke fun of my missuses of They're, Their, and There. I dont give a rats about making everything proper.

All I need is for the server to check on the table every so often or the bartender to fill my glass when it needs to be filled. As long as that's done you have done your job.

I think it's probably a dumb system, too. Unfortunately, it's the way the system needs to work until servers get paid the same as everyone else.

I actually saw or heard a story on NPR recently about restaurants experimenting with no gratuity. They pay the employee's somewhere between $10-15 and provide health benefits. They noticed that servers were typically happier and service was at least as good, if not better than before.

Unfortunately, I don't think most employers will start paying servers enough to eliminate gratuities so long as the law allows them to pay servers severally dollars below minimum wage.

It would be a better system, and the increase in payroll would mean an increase in the cost of food or drinks at the restaurant, however the increase would be minimal

The price of your bill will increase a great deal so there would be no savings to the customer. IMO the increase would be 30-40% more because health benefits are expensive and you'd be doubling to tripling the pay of the employees.

30-40% more IMO.

In just the small mom and pop shop I work at it would cost the owner $158,400 more in a year to run the business.

That money would be passed onto the customer.

There was a study done, and I remember the cost of increasing server wage was very minimal. That's taking into consideration that you no longer need to tip

He's talking about also the added expense of health benefits. Not just the wages. I think on wages alone it isnt going to be huge. But health care is very expensive.

I can't believe that it's legal to pay someone below minimum wage because they get tips. It's called minimum wage for a reason. You can't do that poop up here in Canada. (Granted, here in Sask you get $16/hr to work at Tim Hortons.)

Providing health care might not be required to move away from the tipping model. It was obviously part of that NPR story I linked, but I doubt that's the only model out there. Of course, I'm not sure what the PPACA implications would be for those employers.
