LMAO. Yeah. Pomona has a big swap meet. That race track there is huge. I have actually never been to the swap meet. But have been the NHRA drag races there. I was told they have a huge vehicle swap meet. Tons of parts and stuff. Been told by many I should attend to find good prices on parts for my car. I live in the high desert. Im a bit out from those cities. I honestly dont like the city. I was born in LA. Lived there for awhile. Now my humble little desert town is being over populated with section 8 welfare. LA is pushing all the people up into my area now. Now I have to look to move further out.
- poisondhearts37

It takes 2 days to walk through and see all the parts atleast, I have a 70 Camaro so I was just looking to see what I could find, it's pretty big area.

Late/Early I work 3rd shift but had to add something.

I worked as a server/bar-tender in a private club for 14 months up until this past January and have worked in a couple other places bussing/dishwashing/food running.

I made 4.00/hr as a food runner and my tips came from my servers, who were supposed to tip me 1% of their sales for the night, and this was in a high traffic restaurant during tourist season, so I knew they were making $500++ a night in tips (a friend of mine told me she made over $1500 in one weekend in tips).

For example, if their sales were $800, I was supposed to get $8 from them. If their sales were $1800, I was entitled to $18 (out of their average of $300 - $500 a night, with more on busy nights).

Aside from a couple of my friends and a few nice, honest people, I would get $2, $3, $4 and $5 dollar tips even when they had over $1000 in sales and made over $400 in tips and I'm going to be honest, I was busting my friggin' ass that summer and covering a lot of their slack. So my tips and my pay were directly related to arse kissing my co-workers and they usually low-balled me. Out of the 10 or so servers who worked my shift, maybe 2 would tip me what I was supposed to get, no matter how hard I worked or how much brown-nosing I did (and a lot of times, didn't do - which usually got me more in tips, go figure).

I made around $250 - $450 a weekend (Thurs - Sun) depending on traffic and my co-worker's moods (ask me about Shark Week at Joe's Crab Shack sometime). Living in Pittsburgh at the time, that was hardly enough to get by.

Working in the private club I made $9.25 an hour as a server/bar-tender in a club that had a policy that discouraged tipping by members and guests (in the member hand book it stated tipping was neither encouraged nor discouraged because the serve-staff made more that minimum).

I must say, making the $9.25 an hour in a club where tipping was verbally discouraged regardless of what the member handbook suggested was way worse than being low-balled by co-wrkers who were supposed to tip me out and making $4.00 an hour.

I got maybe one nice tip per week and usually less than $20 a day in tips, even in the bar on a good night I made only around $25 a night (after splitting with my other bar-tender)

Not only were my hours inadequate, but my tips didn't cover the difference and quarterly bonuses from the 11% gratuity charge on each check didn't do much, if anything to help.

Not only that, but since it was rare to get a decent tip, you usually got one by being a certain member's favorite server or doing a stand-up job and earning MAYBE a $60 dollar tip one night on a $300 dollar+ bill and never more than $100 on a holiday where we served 2 or 3 tables each.

Also, getting a great tip bred resentment from co-workers who felt entitled to a share of everything, even if they didn't earn it or deserved no part of it. I regularly had tips stolen by my co-workers if cash was left on table, and even had my head bartender stealing tips on checks cashed out IN MY NAME. Not only that but since our "rule of thumb" in the bar was we split all tips, if he had a table in the adjacent billiard room that left a bomb tip, he would hide the check (I know this because I found one hidden once with a $60 tip on it that he took for himself) so I didn't see it and take the entire tip, not to mention pocketing $20s and $5s like it was going out of style, and with his $12.50 an hour pay rate it was disgusting work ethic to say the least.

Not only that but any banquets or wedding that I worked where the hosts left an envelop of money to be split between the wait staff, my MANAGERS would take the money to themselves and tip out their lap-dogs and keep it a secret between them.

All that being said, I still think you earn your tip as a server or bar-tender and if you give poope service, you deserve poope tips, plain and simple and I knew full well when I earned a tip, when I got low-balled on a tip and when I gave crap service and didn't care about a tip. I would treat rude guests as such and lovely guests as such and expect compensation based on our table dynamics, never full on expecting the tip money I needed in order to make my living.

My own tipping etiquette is based on a number of things, first and foremost eye-contact, pleasantness and the difficulty that I feel they went through in serving me. If I order 2 orders of wings (by the way, outside of Buffalo, wings come by the dozen and I will say with certainty that 12 wings is 2 too many) and 2 sodas and my bill comes to 21 dollars, I'll leave between 3 and 5 bucks (also depending on how much change I have). If alcohol is involved, I'll leave more but there's nothing difficult about serving and clearing wings. Fine dining, minimum 20 bucks whether the bill is $50 or $100 dollars, unless the service is a joke. You get what you earn and if you earn it, I'll reward you, if not, learn how to act because part of the job is I'M GIVING YOU MY MONEY. I serve with that in mind and I dine with that in mind.

I don't need any of that when dining unless it's fine dining(dinner for two $100+). All I need is take my drink order, bring said drinks, take my food order, bring said food, check on me every so often to bring more said drinks, and then leave me the check.

When sitting at the bar just refill my drink when needed. It doesn't even bother me if you forgot what I was drinking. I'd rather you ask then make me the wrong thing.

Do this and you get 20%+. Save the small talk as we're not friends.

I can't believe that it's legal to pay someone below minimum wage because they get tips. It's called minimum wage for a reason. You can't do that poop up here in Canada. (Granted, here in Sask you get $16/hr to work at Tim Hortons.)
- BINGO!

Yeah. How dare someone's pay be directly affected by how they do their job. The government should mandate how much everyone makes so that there is no incentive to try and do a good job.
