They wont say it but the moves this summer and the way these games are being played and the lineup used seems to smell tank nation - jmdodgeser4
I think Hexy convinced Eddie that a rebuild is the only way, it is a tankless job |

The Flyers organization is not wired to tank.
With Hextall, however, they are wired to be pragmatic.
They aren't challenging for a cup with this roster, as currently constituted. They have some young pieces they are trying to be patient with, both at the NHL and AHL level. It's important to be patient; it's just difficult. |

He did explicitly say one step back to move forward, or something to that effect. He's been true to his word on everything else... |

One guy does this, the other three just take weak little wristers.
Please put Akeson and Bellemare in the next shootout. |

I'd put Umby back with VLC and Raffl and play that line 3rd line minutes and hope to break even against the competition.
Until there are other options.
VLC if here has to play C. - Marc D
As I said, they don't want to play Schenn at center while VLC is out because if he actually did well it would create a ton of problems. |

And the start of trade Jake talk? - JoeRussomanno
Did you watch the third period?
The guy can take over a game when he skated like that.
He has the skills to be elite.
Perfect winger for Schenn to get his very good shot.
They just need a clone of Jake for both lines. |

Then let him play center and tell VLC play wing or enjoy the press box |

I know it would be crazy to suggest that he could sustain that level of play for entire games let alone a season, but the way Voracek played the last 5+ minutes of the game was probably the most dominating I have seen since JvR in the playoffs a few years back.
G has the ability to dictate play and control the game and do what he pleases, but he doesnt possess the pure speed and strength that Voracek showed. Unreal. He would not be stopped, and if there was just a little bit more time left he would have ended that. |

I'm clinging to the hope that Vinny will be gone by the time his last big bonus installment is paid out this coming summer... and all this BS will finally get sorted out. |

How come good players like Ovechkin, Malkin etc, have a shootout success rate of only 23 to 25% ?
Wouldn't that mean that a goalie stops them 3 times our of 4? - Pecafan Fan
idk, but its an obvious problem and it we have lose alot points over the years with horrible shootout showings, there are things that can be done.
you dont have to be a supestar to be good at shootouts, oshie and there are a few no namers out there that score regular at these, just saying that if no current flyers are good at it and it cant be taught or practiced maybe bring in a guy or 2 with a good shootout percentage |

Yea I was kidding... But seriously I got laughed at by the bobby Ryan groupies when I said jake is a poor man's Jagr ... Who's laughing now?
Anyway yes! That play right there is the kind of stuff I need to see from our captain too btw, he's capable. Take control of the game make poop happen |

I disagree with this. You don' see effort from Schenn because he is expending it somewhere else because he is not comfortable with his position yet. He's doing a lot of skating, just not in the right place. If you give him 20 games with the same line, and position and he still looks like this then yes, I will be more concerned.
You use Rinaldo as an example of effort. Many nights, he is doing the ame thing. He routinely puts himself out of defensive position to deliver a big hit. But because their is visual evidence of "effort" he is okay. - VladDrag
Is that another 20 on top of the 196 games he has already played. He doesn't give enough effort continusly to make up for games he is not scoring or doing much of anything else.
Rinado has played well this year. His effort is there each shift and he hasn't been getting out of position. He hasn't been getting out of position and now is killing penalites too. He is making the best of his minutes and chances.
If we want to wait 20 games until Schenn is comfortable and it never happens then what. Why can a guy like Couturier make it work with different wingers. Good players make the adjustments. It is not like this is the first year with the Flyers for Schenn. He is with these guys enough to know tendancies and how guys play

Yes, I'm counting playoff games.
His shot is good, but he can't make his own shot. He skates like his brother (that's seriously not a compliment). He's an OK passer. And I'll give you that he's a tough kid. He's not soft.
The coaching staff has sent a very clear message that he's not going to play center in this organization. He needs to get over it and be productive. - johndewar
How have they sent that message; by not putting him in one posititon for more than 20 games in a row? They may have said that, but their actions speak much differently. They even moved him around in preseason this year. |

Well, I actually get why they don't want to risk Schenn playing well at Center. They really need VLC to play himself into trade contention. It probably is the best strategy for the short term.
But, Schenn's play will likely suffer. So Hexy has to consider this and not make any moves with Schenn until after the VLC situation plays out. Because Schenn right now has little value. |

I kinda want to see Giroux and Voracek separated. They both have the ability to create space and scoring chances. Why not try playing Giroux with Simmonds and Voracek with Couturier? Couturier has been strictly a third line center at ES though. Jsaq tweeted some stats yesterday and Couts had started something like 25% of his shifts in the offensive zone. |

More importantly, they need Vinnie to play his way off the team. So I don't think Schenn's final resting place is decided yet. |

yah. I see the idea behind the trade to get cap space down the line faster, but Umberger is just horrible. Id sit him and insert a rookie at this point that has a pulse. - jmdodgeser4
Basically they traded a productive player with a bad contract, for a stiff with a slightly shorter bad contract. |
