The problem is they are not bad enough. Getting outscored 12-6 at even strength means this team still stinks at 5 on 5 and thus has zero shot of winning a cup. If the absolute pinnacle of this team is a 1st round playoff lost, I would rather them finish last in the league. A team can get trapped in mediocrity for a decade if they aren't careful. - psuhockey
I dont think its hextals plan to be in mediocrity. I see he wants to let this team as is and see where it goes as some contracts expire or can be moved. I give it a 2-3 year plan and this team will be a nightmare for teams to play against especially with up and coming d. I want a lottery pick for just one year, and this year is the year. Deep draft with generational players in it. The question comes though when the flyers get that 1st pick.. do they take mcdavid or Eichel |

Looks like it. This start hasn't exactly had me doing cartwheels. Mason played solid last night, so maybe the team gets on the road and shows me something. I remember last year we had a fantastic west coast trip and it really set the stage for us making the playoffs. At least this is the hope I am clinging too. |

looked like a pretty good effort, some guys seem to be waking up...
I find it disturbing and ignorant for berube to make jokes about the shoot outs, I understand he thinks its a gimmick and all but its part of the game much like the extra point in football and should be practiced seriously and taken serious
if chip Kelly was coach flyers I can guarantee that the shoot out would be figured out |

This team has nothing on CAR or BUF. Those teams are a huge jump in epic fail. Last night could have easily been a huge loss but they showed resilience. This team showed character and this is BAD for all fail nation folks. I see a team that drafts 4-12 depending on injuries. No trades are coming, or at least I hope not- stay the course. |

Dump the schenn's and read, get another winger and Dman, promote some phantoms ala ghost and Laughton, drive on. |

But where would the league want a Mcdavid or Eichel to play? Not buf or carolina. Big market like....say.... Philly...look at crosby. |

Did you see the BUF/ANA game two days ago. BUF looked like they were on the PK the whole game. It was embarrassing to watch and I don't even like their team! Those fans deserve a superstar for putting up with it. Sorry to harsh your mellow bro. |

With a 99% chance we'd still lose that lottery |

Last thing I would do, sell low on players with potential. Trade the vets long before these guys: RJ, Streit, Grossman and Vinny (I know they have no value so you wait to the TDL and pray). |

If they were truly gambling on Schenn, it'd be nice if they gave him more than 4 periods. - Jsaquella
Brayden Schenn had a very strong game last night.

How exactly should a Coach figure out the shootout? It's simply a skills breakaway competition. Send out the best guys, and hope they score. And hope the goalie makes the save. The most the coaching staff can do is give scouting reports on shooters or goaltenders. Not much to figure out.

This year there's at least a comparable consolation prize. |

I think they should use Grossman, L schenn, and Giroux. I mean the first two would score simply because they would move to slow and put the goalie to sleep and then g just comes along and puts it in while the goalie is sleeping. I should be coach. |

I am as optimistic about the prospects as the next fan but there seems to be this almost certainty that they are going to pan out. Almost every ranking service has the Flyers prospects pool in the bottom 3rd of the league. Plus by the time the defense prospects are hitting their stride at the NHL level, the Flyers best forwards will be at the tail end of their primes. Getting trapped in mediocrity is a very real possibility. |

No, it's not. Ghost isn't ready, and ok, yeah bring up Laughton |
