I'll give you Bure, but I'm gonna disagree with you completely on Federov.
That dude won Selke trophies and was a better than a PPG player. He could play any role on the ice asked of him....scorer, shutdown forward, you name it. - johndewar

I think there can be more than 1.
50 - Richard/Howe
60s/70s - Orr, Esposito
80s/90s - Gretzky/Lemieux
00s-10s - Crosby - jmatchett383
Richard was not a generational talent. Not even close.
The mystique that has built up around the guy is bizarre.
He was a god in Quebec for social/political reasons.
But he simply doesn't deserve the idol worship elsewhere.
His 50 in 50 came during WWII - the rosters were incredibly depleted (both in terms of talent and actual numbers).
He would have only won the Richard trophy 4 times (that's off the top of my head - feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).
1 Hart Trophy
No other trophies.
Was he great? Yes.
Was he a generational talent? Only if you were French Canadian. |

I'm seeing a lot of players get picked on and many get a free pass. I'll use Voracek for example.
Jake Voracek had a really nice get last night but he hasn't exactly led the charge in the first three. I think he gets a free pass because he's flashy, where as a guy like Brayden Schenn or even Luke Schenn isn't. In my time as a Flyers fan, I've seen more production from less flashy but more elite players. Simon Gagne at Voracek's age had more production and more responsiblity by being an situations player and scoring 40 goals.
I think even our best can do a little more. Not just show up every third or fourth game. It shouldn't be just the playoffs or a tough match up that gets these guys out of bed.
I'll continue to believe in the youth core of this group. |

Lottery protection is just common sense. No one wants to be the next Garth Snow. - Feanor
Don't forget the Leafs when they traded for Kessel. The Bruins won the cup and then got to pick second overall that year and 9th overall the following year.
Phil Kessel vs Tyler Seguin & Dougie Hamilton.

I never understood why the NHL doesn't use lottery protection like the NBA. The NBA is much easier to predict which teams will be good.
It's rare that you have a team like the Avs last year jump from one of the worst to the top of the standings. |

Optimistic point of view:
Everyone of these games have been winnable.
The Flyers are showing great resilience in coming back from deficits a lot already (similar to what they did last season).
The Flyers special teams are very good.
Simmonds has blossomed into one of the premiere power forwards in the league - dare I say an All-Star appearance this season?
Jake has come alive. Hopefully that trend continues (big visor and all). |
