I could thin out a big portion of it in the Middle East.

Paul Coffey, Martin Brodeur? - mayorofangrytown
Coffey? He wasn't even the best defenseman of his era. Same for Brodeur, Hasek was better (all things equal). |

No love for Roy?
He said players who changed the way the game was played. Orr was considered an aberration until Coffey did it then offensive defenseman were vogue. Brodeur=trapezoid.
Edit: I'm in no way endorsing them as a generational talent. |

Had he not had the injuries/concussions and if you discount his numbers after his first season in NYR then yes. But to put him in the same category as Lemieux/Gretzky/Howe/Orr, you just can't do it. If you look at just his Flyers career, you can make a case. - jmatchett383
After the concussions he was not the same...I am only looking at his Flyer numbers...i don't think you can use the numbers after that, he was a shell of himself on the ice after that...but he did change the game like the others you mentioned, big forwards were now at the top of the draft board, that is where the Grattons and Primeaus came from...and his point totals during his days with the flyers were on par with most of the guys in that group as well...in my mind, he was a generational player |

He's a generational player. He shaped the game.

John Ferguson and Dave Schultz changed the way the game was played. I don't think they're "generational."
Also, you basically said Coffey just copied what Orr did. As for Brodeur, I'd argue Hextall was more revolutionary because, were it not for him, guys like Brodeur/Mason wouldn't handle the puck as much. |

The only people who suggest that Lindros was NOT a generational player are people who don't know hockey, Pens, Rangers, Devils fans, or Flyers fans who are sour at Lindros for not winning anything, despite the fact that the organization never did anything to actually back up Lindros either player personnel wise, or medically. |

Right...but you HAVE to include his whole career. Mario Lemieux had ridiculous back injuries and cancer, and he came back and still was outright dominating. Howe almost died, had to have a hole drilled into his skull, and came back and dominated. Gretzky missed almost a whole season with back injury (surgery), and came back and was scoring 100+ points. Lindros was never able to recapture his Flyers numbers. |

Well, yeah, there ya go. I know it sounds heartless and terrible, but if there are people who want to live in the 12th century in the 21st century, they need to go. And if it's either us or them, well, it's an easy call.
Yes, we're horrible people, but at what point do we stop going, "Well yeah, let them just kill all of the Americans they want, but let's not do anything drastic because we don't want to look mean?" |

Also outside of Darius Kasperitius, who even hit Gretzky and Lemieux? No one. Because everyone who touched either star was going to get killed.
Lindros never had that protection. |

Explain how we played 72 games with the Rangers in 01/02 and put up 73 points, then played a full healthy season of 82 games the next year and only put up 53. That's a serious decline. |

The thought process for Lindros was that he could protect himself. He gave as good as he got.
Lindros never enjoyed the protection of the officials the way Gretzkey and Lemieux did. |

He also didn't do himself any favors on the ice to get their favor, either. |
