Stop talking about McDavid and Eichel

Neither of them will be on this team.

The Flyers will make the playoffs.

- Giroux_Is_God

That was last year. Now its PLAYOFFS...PLAYOFFS???WE ARE TALKING ABOUT PLAYOFFS??!!!!. Or was Iverson on practice?

Brayden Schenn had a stronger game last night but still it seems something is missing. For a kid given a chance to be a go to guy and play on top line to start the season there just seems something missing. He seems to not be up on his skates and something just doesn't pass the eye test.

I advocated patience for Schenn before but now I am thinking maybe it is best to move him. I wasn't banging down the door for Evander kane but maybe now it is time to try and get a guy like that. A hard nosed skilled player. Guys like Kane and Marchand are wieners to play against but also have the skill to pop in 30 goals/

- J35Bacher

I don't know, he was up on his skates last night. He was strong on the puck, and strong on the forecheck all game.

I'm no where near ready to think about moving Brayden Schenn. And regardless, you'd have to include something significant along with Schenn to get Evander Kane.

Id like a look of him at the top line.
- JoeRussomanno

I'd prefer Raffl there, if they won't move Read there.

It was last year! Very good.

And they'll make the playoffs this year too, even though they've started poorly.

Add this to the list of positives: no one is talking about buying the Flyers and moving them to Quebec, Seattle, Portland, Markham, or Las Vegas.
- Doc_Sarcasm

Another positive would be that they draw more fans than the Panthers. Hell the Phantoms draw more fans than the Panthers.

Close to what? They are 27th in the league at 5 on 5 goal differential behind Carolina and tied with Buffalo. The played well for parts of those games but still lost. Since when did moral victories become some kind of rallying point for Flyers fans? Are we now Edmonton fans?
- psuhockey

Close to being a good team. They just have to iron out some mental mistakes, and figure out why they have slow starts and periods like the 3rd period against Montreal. Not talking about moral victories. Talking about what they have to fix, to be a better team. You missed the point.

I don't think this team is nearly as bad as most on here say they are. Sure there are improvements to be made besides their pathetic shootout. They have had a chance to win every game so far. Tighten up the defense a bit and the wins will come!
- Cable2k

I think they're a middle of the road, playoff bubble team. I don't think they'll be bad enough to get a shot at McDavid or Eichel without a lottery win. But I also don't think they're a guaranteed playoff shoo-in.

same garbage as last year...can't put 60 minutes together. The mistakes have to be expected simply because the defense is just not very good the way it's constructed.....when I say there are a lot of reasons why the D struggles with consistency...lot stands for Lack Of Talent.... I realize you think Luke Schenn has room for growth, but I just don't share your optimism. I realize you think Andrew Macdonald was a decent signing....I just haven't seen a consistency you would expect from a guy that got a 25 million dollar deal.....with no first pairing talent the rest of these guys are being asked a lot of and I just don't think the talent is there to help this team compete at a higher level.
- landros 2

You're right, lot of the same mistakes as last year. But you're wrong if you think that 3rd period against Montreal was about talent. My patience with Luke Schenn is almost empty. But he hasn't played nearly as poorly as some say he has. And Andrew MacDonald has played solidly in all 4 games.

Take the two schenns, possibly read, get an effective winger like lad, and another serviceable dman, hopefully one with more hockey sense than a cucumber

What's your definition of a good team? A team that can win the cup or a team that can squeak into the playoffs and get rolled by a contender? The Flyers are nowhere close to being the the former.

The issue there is, there's no way Brayden Schenn gets you an Evander Kane. At least not right now.

He had a solid game last night. I don't think he was great, but the effort was markedly better and he did a solid job of being involved and active. I don't get his troubles, myself. He's bounced from center to wing before, so he shouldn't look as completely lost as he did the first couple games.

and if he wasn't lost, his effort and compete levels in the time he spent with Giroux and Voracek was completely unacceptable.

Is it just me or do half the guys taking the shootout look like they are just going through the motions and not trying too terribly hard.

Lad and a servicable dman for the schenns? Did I read that last comment correctly? That is a horrible trade. And Im all about tanking this year too and I still wouldnt do that trade.

This team needs to acquire a LW. Raffl being asked to play on the top line is a joke.
- hereticpride

You need to do some research. Raffl did just as well as Hartnell did on the top line last year in generating shots, possession and points.

twopadstack.net/solving-philadelphia-flyers-top-line-left-wing-carousel/

They decided to gamble on Schenn in order to get a shorter contract in Umberger. That is what it is. Raffl is being asked to be a top line player right now and that is laughable

Raffl might have the most giveaways on the team considering how many shots of his go wide of the net.

- hereticpride

Because Hartnell never turned the puck over or missed the net? He had zero games in his first nine games last October.

My definition of a good team is the team that played the first two periods against Montreal, and the last two periods against Anaheim. That team is capable of beating a lot of teams. Regardless of how well this team plays, I don't feel they have the roster to win the Cup.

Ladd is an decent forward but he is soon to be a UFA. All you named is a serviceable D man. We have plenty of serviceable D men. But you want to deal both Schenn's and Read for that? Horrible idea.

I see a decent number 3-4-5 guy in Macdonald....I think he's been ok...I don't see a 5 year commitment or the financial value he comes with, I think they continue ti reach on a lot of these guys. Luke Schenn will always have warts to his game...there's been no marked improvement since he's arrived in philly and my guess is there never will be. He has three good shifts ...then 3 bad ones... There best D man this year has been Streit, but that's asking a lot for that to continue all year.
