Agreed, I think it is a poor place to be. I hope at Christmas they decide to trade vets if we are right and not trade assets for a push. A bit too soon to say this but writing seems to be on the wall.

Being in the middle is the worst place to be. The teams that are better than the Flyers will eventually decline as the players get older while the teams worst than the Flyers will surpass them as they load up with top prospects. The Flyers won't be chasing Pittsburgh and Boston, they will be chasing Columbus and Buffalo in a couple of years.

As the Flyers add an endless supply of middle 6 forwards picking in the teens, Buffalo will be adding generational talent. It will be like when the Flyers were selling Richards and Carter as equals of Malkin and Crosby.
