The 4th line didn't start a shift in the offensive zone so I won't be too hard on them, but again I didn't think they were very good. I wouldn't mind seeing Damien Brunner in for Jordin Tootoo next game to give them more speed and offensive punch, but the team is 3-0-0 so I doubt they change anything.
Ruutu saved a goal and that kept Tampa from setting the tone and getting the momentum in the first 5 minutes. Completely different game if they scored there. And gionta wasn't bad. Tootoo was nothing special, but overall the line wasn't bad.
Brunner on the 4th line would be terrible. Our 4th line is built around grinding and being physical. Brunner is the opposite of that. |

Ruutu is the only player on that line that's actually decent. He played solid last night. .. making up for the other 2 ding dongs. |

I like Ruutu on the 4th line, but that's about it. I'd like to see them give Ruutu- Josefson- Brunner a shot. Right now our 4th line has 12 PIMs and 6 SOG. We can't expect that Cam and Ryder are going to score 80+ goals this year, it would be nice to see a little offense out of our 4th line, kinda like we had with Carter before we decided to keep Bernier and let him go for some reason. |

Todd Cordell: G3 Recap: Devils Shutdown Stamkos, Lightning; Remain Undefeated - Todd.Cordell[/
Sal looks awful. He's by far the slowest d-man and is making some really bad outlet passes. I don't see what he brings to the table right now other than the "C" on his jersey.
I thought Gionta and Ruutu played a decent game, but I still see no value in Tootoo. I am not a JJ fan, but I'd rather see him get in there. |

I just think they'd be better off putting more speed/skill on the 4th line in Brunner and perhaps Josefson, and becoming a team with four lines that can create offense. |

Salvador should sit after that game - shvingter88
He keeps playing 20+ minutes a night and the injury happen. Can't wait to see Harrold get called up and jump Larsson on the depth chart. |

Agreed a billion percent, our 4th line has gone from a strength to a liability. |

If PDB wants to put 4 skilled lines together then he has to sit Tootoo. Either go tough with that line or play Brunner and JJ. Don't try to go 50/50. |

Lou told TG that Brunner is not an effective 4th liner in an interview about a week ago. Hold on, let me see if I can find the quote.
edit: I found it, but after rereading it, its not really that insightful. If you're still curious-
TG: What about your forward group? Are you still trying to figure out some things there with Damien Brunner and Jacob Josefson looking like your extra forwards in today’s practice?
LL: “Well, the coach probably has the four lines that he feels right now are the lines. Certainly I support any decisions that are made.
TG: When you mention Brunner's spot not being in cement, do you intend for him to be on your team and he’s just not in your top nine right now?
LL: “Right now, he’s not in the (top) three lines and he’s a top six, seven, eight forward. He had a great camp and (the forwards) made it very difficult and interesting.” |

The irony there is while Brunner may not be an effective 4th liner, Tootoo isn't an effective hockey player on any line. |

I think he said something like he's a top-9 forward and there is no room right now. Never said he could or could not play on the 4th line but I believe your right that he'll probably wait until there is an opening on the top 9. |

Larsson, where art thou? I hate how he's losing time out of his playing career that he'll never get back by sitting in the press box. I'd almost rather have him in Albany, just so he'd be playing at least. |

He's on a one way, so that's not happening. I imagine he'll get a shot soon. |

apparently after Elias iced the puck and TB called their timeout, Zajac snuck on the ice for Havlat and took the last faceoff |

They usually do
Wait until they ref another's Devils game, I bet you we get at least one boarding penalty |

Yeah, from what I gather the refs all talk to each other constantly and have profiles on every player/coach. I don't imagine they'll be giving us many breaks after we took advantage of them. |
