First you're not thinking like lou and Pete, players that they like wont be demoted. Also trades aren't as easy as they are in nhl15. - shvingter88
Don't have NHL15. Gionta might not be demoted because of Pete, but Tootoo might if Lou signs Gomez at some point. As for the trades, just because we think trades aren't easy or don't happen everyday doesn't mean GM aren't talking and it would than come down to compensation between the two or so. Who knows what Lou is doing right now regarding his roster/extra players. |

Ok let me rephrase then, while it is too early in my mind to judge Larsson or anyone drafted after him, the Devils had 9 first round picks. Granted those picks were late in the draft. Two of those picks were Parise and Zajac.
The other 7 were:
Ari Ahonen (1999) bad draft year as you mentioned.
David Hale (2000) Brad Boyes, Steve Ott, Justin Williams and Kronwall all picked after him in the first round.
Adrian Foster (2001) picked 28th, but there were some solid players picked in the 2nd round.
Nicklaus Bergors (2005) Picked 23, TJ Oshie, Cogliano, Niskanen, James Neal and Vlasic all went after him and before the Devils 2nd round pick.
2006- Devils trade down to 30th, St Louis gets NJs pick and takes Berglund, we get Corrente.
2008- Devils trade down from 21. The 22nd pick was Jordan Eberle. We get Mattias Tedenby.
2009- Devils trade up giving Calgary our first and third. We select Josefson. Passed on Kyle Palmieri and Ryan OReilly.
Again every team busts sometimes, but I really doubt anyone can match out 1st round futility. - smellmyfinger
I know that the Devils picked a lot of bust and the only two as of right now that have worked out were Parise and Zajac. I was gonna say that you would have to exclude like the last 3 or 4 years because it's been so close and time hasn't really shown which players are bust or not, but you said it.
So, I'll look from 99-09, maybe 2010. I'll need time. ALso, a first round bust is a first round bust no matter what the position, but I'll see if any other teams can match position for position. |

I get that, but just found it to be an amazing feat that we managed to find a bust at each position including a defense pair all within 9 first round picks. |

Have to give credit to the Devils last night. Outside of the dumpster fire Salvador their defensive coverage was superb. Schneider swallowed shot after shot which was huge not only keeping rebounds down but also allowing the Devils to get the puck and exit the zone. They did a great job at clogging the neutral zone and even if the Bolts were fatigued (4 games in 6 nights AND back-to-back), they weathered the early storm and the Bolts couldn't get anything going.
From what is saw last night you guys have a solid team that with Schneider backstopping has a chance on any given night. Good luck until we meet again - uf1910

Ruutu saved a goal and that kept Tampa from setting the tone and getting the momentum in the first 5 minutes. Completely different game if they scored there. And gionta wasn't bad. Tootoo was nothing special, but overall the line wasn't bad.
Brunner on the 4th line would be terrible. Our 4th line is built around grinding and being physical. Brunner is the opposite of that. - TheJerseyDevil1
Tell me when exactly have you seen grinding and physical from our 4th line w the exception of Rutuu? Tootoo hasn't been seen, has been a turnover machine (or just dumps the puck), and has had penalties called against him. Gio plays a good PK but has not looked sharp. Bottom line is our 4th line has had hardly any scoring chances yet the opposing 4th line has had numerous. Not saying our 4th line has to score but if they can't hit, create momentum and possess the puck then its time for changes....especially when we have quality players chomping to play. |

From 1999-09 there is only one team that can match us in providing a complete starting lineup of 1st round bust and that is Boston. There other teams that are missing a position like Tampa (LW) or Buffalo/Anaheim (G). With Buffalo and Anaheim, I made Myers a bust because his play has went down for 4 years, but thats because of the team has, so that can go either way and Anaheim drafted Gardiner and since he was drafted in 08 and is a healthy scratch for Toronto he can go either way. Most other teams are missing a position or two, but there are a lot of 1st round bust. Teams pick players with the same position and they are bust.
Edit: Not a lot of goalie are picked in the first round. |

Until the 4th line is adjusted it's gonna continue. That's any sport though. When we win it will most likely be the same things discussed and when we lose the same things will be discussed. An endless circle back to the same points. |

Not really that impressive. I just decided to look at one team(NYR) and they're a LW short and they didn't have a 1st in 2 or 3 years

If you are going to use a guy like David Hale as a bust when he has over 300 career games then I think most teams could do it.

Most of the teams that can't its because they haven't picked a goalie or enough defensman over that time. |

Barring the draft where every player was good, the one with Parise, most teams first round picks are busts. just how it goes. on top of that we have only had two high draft picks in the past million years in which we traded one for Schneider and we took Larsson who if you're calling a bust right now makes you an bumhole. |

Fair enough I thought we pulled off a rare feet by being able to ice a roster of first round busts all within 10 or so years. Guess it's not that difficult.

I still refuse to believe he is being serious with the Larsson bashing, it must be schtick, right?
