No offense because Mantha is a great prospect, but he has yet to play 1 NHL game. He could also turn out to be not so great. - ImThatGuy
Of course he could not turn out, but the Wings will take their chances that he turns into a big body 30+ goal scoring sniper. They have have defensive prospects that could be as good or better than Myers (even in a better situation), but they don't have any other guys like that.

Hummm
I think Myers actual contract's might ends before Buffalo becomes real threat.
So again, based on the actual situation of Buffalo, they should take the best offer period. - soad_live
He's got 4 more years on his deal(also if he's doing well I imagine a team would re-sign him long term?). Unless you're trying to make a subtle jab at the sabres rebuild, it's likely that the team will at least be competing for the playoffs in around 2-3 years. |

Agreed.
But he'd be a nice fit.
Then again, MTL did trade Gorges to Buf - WaterBoy
I would love him on Mtl and think he could do really well playing with a guy like Markov.
I think they should definitely make a push here - maybe move some young prospects (Lehkonen, McCarron, Andrighetto, Pateryn) and a roster player. Dont really want to move JDR or Bealieu or Tinordi though....
EDIT: That said i doubt this gets it done |

2 years no.
3 years maybe.
4 years probably.
But probably won't be a threat to teams like Mtl, Boston, Tampa bay before Myers contracty ends. Detroit i might agree but still.

Wings aren't trading Mantha for Myers. So if you think that is/should be the price you should just move on, nothing to see here.
Myers is young and could still turn into a great defenseman if he gets out of Buffalo but he might just not be that great of a defenseman.
Only a desperate/stupid team (maybe the Oilers?) is going to trade what Buffalo wants for him. So in all likely hood he probably isn't going anywhere and the Sabres should stop messing with his head and say he isn't going anywhere. - noffsin6
He's already really good. So on a good team I'd expect him to be close to great.
Unless it's for a haul he probably will stay a Sabre |

Two full seasons after this year, they will at the very least be trying for a playoff spot. May not make it, but it definitely won't help their cause if Myers is playing for a division rival. And why continue to bring up the contract? You think whatever team overpays for him is going to just let him walk. For all we know he could re-sign and stay with that team for over a decade. |

I also fail to see how he's a "risk". He's had one year (a lockout year) where his play wasn't one of a top 2-3 defensemen. No one is trading for him expecting him to all of the sudden become Shea Weber, you would be trading for a bonafide top 4 defensemen that is young, and signed for 4 more seasons. That alone is costly. Add in his potential to take over games and it becomes an even greater cost |

I understand your point but what i'm trying to say is Buffalo needs to pass 7 teams to make the playoffs. And about 10-11 teams to be considered a contender.
I don't think the ONE team you'de trade Myers to would have any impact on those objectives.
At least, i don't think you should take a lesser return for that matter. |

Depends on how much better the division rival offer is, but I can't really imagine a division rival overpaying or being the best offer for the same reasons. Also the thought of Myers in a leafs or Sens jersey makes me nauseous |

MTL would be the perfect fit.
Right Handed D with size on the 2nd pairing with Markov ?
Yup. - WaterBoy
Thought so too... |

love seeing sabres fans predicting what theyll be able to get for Myers. what you expect to get( the moon and stars) will be far lower then what he gets in a trade. But, when your team is as bad as theirs is you have to have something to distract from the mess. |

Man you have a weird obsession with Mantha, calling him your moon and stars. In all reality, both players have a lot to prove, with a lot of potential. Thus far, Myers has proved to have ups and downs, and is showing resilience by playing pretty well thus far this season. Mantha has proved nothing at the NHL level yet. Not saying that they should be traded, just stating the facts about both. |

I remember when Luke Adam was scoring a ton of goals in juniors.
Fact is Mantha has proven zilch. I wouldn't even do that deal 1 for 1. Scoring in juniors is great, do it at the NHL level |

Shor term memory? You were the one saying he'd go for guys like backman and turgeon if it even got that far. I doubt most fans outside the wings organization even know who they are. |

Sounds fair. I propose Connor Hurley, Brycen Martin, and a 2nd for Evander Kane |

More then most fans would like to give up. That can be said for every team though.
Myers is young, big and can skate with the best of them. Plus he is under contract for 4 more years at a respectable $5MM per.
The Sabres can be patient and wait for a team to get desperate to make the move. And If that time they are waiting he progresses to be a top Pairing D-man, they can just keep him. |
