Don't think so, but he'd be a lot better there than @ LW, IMO. |

It's a system that puts a lot of pressure on the C's to cover a lot of ice and to be defensively accomplished -- on a team that has a shortage of two-way, rangey centers.
I have no problem at all if this is the system they plan on running with when Hexy's finished molding the roster to look more like the Kings/Bruins, when Coots has Laughton (or whoever else) to play Kelly to his Bergeron, Stoll to his Richards.
But in the meantime, while the roster is full of imperfect fits and kids that need to develop, I'd hope he could be a little more accommodating and flexible... if not, he's really no better than Lavi. - Tomahawk
Every hockey system and forecheck scheme puts pressure on centers defensively. Whether that is coming deep inside the defensive zone, or in a center lock forecheck such as Berube plays. Lecavalier, who you mentioned has looked much stronger on his skates, and has made multiple plays where he been in good defensive position, executing the center lock.
This roster is perfectly capable of playing the style and system that Berube wants to play. And is far more conservative, and less risky then Laviolette's 3-2 press forecheck, that consistently had all 3 forwards deep in an agressive forecheck, with no breakout protection. In conjunction with both defenseman aggressively pinching. In my opinion the two situations aren't remotely the same.
I'd like to hear specifically how you think Berube should teak his system. And not in generalities, but specifically. In terms of his forecheck, neutral zone forecheck, regroups, defensive zone coverage, etc.

Yea, I loved all those odd man rushes against, and free skates through the neutral zone straight to the Flyers net. Good times!

Haha I choose to remember the positives but that's just me.
I kid I kid. Even if I don't agree with it I am happy they have an organizational view with how they should play. Was kind of weird having kids in the AHL learn D first then the opposite once they came to Philly. |

Yeah, that season they went 1-10-1 vs the Rangers and Devils was so (frank)ing awesome. Not to mention his handling of the goalies in 2011, leading to Mr Universe in net |

Does he actually prefer playing D to being a forward? I have no idea. - Feanor
he was quoted to say he wants to be on the ice as much as possible, and playing D gives him more ice time |

Don't get me wrong there are parts of Laviolette that I loved. Loved his fire, and his heart. Loved some of his locker room speeches. Loved when he told Steve Ott to go F himself when Ott was trying to block the way back to the room. But his system, needs exceptional puck moving defenseman to work. And when he didn't have that, he tried to dial up the forecheck even more aggressively, to try and compensate. To basically play defense in the offensive zone. And he refused to back off of that.

Should Hexy decide the team needs to make a move I'm starting to see Laughton more and more as an asset.
I know everyone is excited for the kid but you can't ignore the track record the Flyers scouting dept has done the last few years with undrafted players. Read, Raffl, Bellemare.
If the team has a need in the top 6 forward group or the top 4 D men... and it's a fair deal involving Laughton, I think I'm okay with it.
That said, I don't expect one of you to agree with me. |

I'd move Laughton for a good defenseman, age depending.

I think the end game for Hextall is to have G, Couturier, and Laughton down the middle.
I think this business with Lecavalier is gonna work itself out. Eventually. |

Does Couturier have the offensive creativity and talent level to be a 2nd line center? I have my doubts personally. |
