Yep, physical, gritty vet with a rep as a hard worker? Guy made an honest mistake.
Smallish, younger guy who is more offensively inclined does same thing? Too soft and inconsistent - Jsaquella

Maybe Berube doesn't want Akeson in the lineup, but isn't being given a choice. |

Could be, but I doubt it. I just think he's too stubborn to see that a player with Akeson's build and skill set is really a bad choice for a 4th line. |

Eh, I don't see why Hextall would care if Jones replaced him on the 4th line. |

Talking before the spear... Shaw's got Myers practically backed into the crease there. |

my opinion so far is that Chief is a great motivator and knows how to teach what it takes to stay in the league, he knows how to have a team that grinds...unfortunately those days have come and gone...he does not appear to have the knowldege on how to coach skill players and coach a team that needs to use speed...the plan appears to be to turtle and try to be defensive when the forward corps are mostly skill players and need to use speed to be successful...i just don't think the make up of the team matches Chief's coaching skill set at this point in his coaching career...Loved him as a player, I am luke warm at best with him as the longterm coach...not that there are better solutions right now, i just think the development of some of these young guys will suffer and we may end up losing them in trades "becasue they didn't pan out" |

Could this simply be a case of Berube not wanting to gift PP time to Akeson simply because of his AHL work?
We've said before that there's nothing wrong with guys earning their spot. It seems since Hextall's been in charge, you practically have to steal someone's job at this point or someone has to get hurt to advance.
Akeson definitely has some flaws, but I think Berube would even admit that Akeson will be a handy guy to have around if there are (more) injuries.
Rinaldo is not wrong....you DO have to start somewhere and that somewhere doesn't necessarily mean it's a top 6 role.
And FWIW, I think the 4th line has been pretty good this year, so far. |

On the contrary....I think this roster plays precisely into Berube's strengths as a coach because I don't think this roster is all that good. |

Sounds like Jake does all kinds of stuff in practice shootouts, but then froze when it got to the game.
"Sometimes I think we are too tentative to go one on one, and you know, like me yesterday, I was practicing shootouts all summer and yesterday I go and I just just try to go five-hole but, I'm sure there were other moves I could have pulled out, some better moves, I didn't. We just gotta make sure we are confident when we go at it." |

Chief started Akeson in the top-9 in the PO's and he acquitted himself well... now the slate is wiped completely clean? Doesn't make sense. |

Not really. Shaw had just skated to the front of the net from behind.

I would rather they try some crazy move and fail spectacularly instead of just shooting it wide or in to the goalies chest.

in my opinion it smacks of "test".....lets see how this guy responds when we make him play a role he isn't suited for (or out of position, or or or)......happens WAY too much in this organ-ize-ation |

Especially on Andersen, who's big in net, but doesn't move side to side particularly well. |
