then can't they petition the league to send him to Roch? - IndianaSabresFan
Technically they could. But they'll get denied. Regier tried to get an exemption for Grigorenko and they said no. I think it's ridiculous that this is an issue when the kid isn't even from North America. I can see them wanting to maintain competitive teams, but they're only allowed 2 Euro's on a roster per game. So how could losing 1 of those 2 players have that much of an impact?
This whole thing is really just starting to infuriate me. |

They're not going to be able to keep an eye on his development in the KHL And apparently feel he is above Juniors. I say, send him to juniors and keep some semblance of a line of communication going regarding his development. This crappy agreement between the NHL and the OHL needs some kind of modification. Especially for a guy wo is under contract with an NHL club. |

I say send the waiver in to have him excused. If his OHL team (Allegedly) does not want him there. What can it hurt. Plus it shows the Sabres are trying to do something with him. |

The CHL will never sign off. So all that does is keep him off the ice even longer. I think this whole thing has gotten ridiculous. He's under contract with an NHL club, they should be able to determine where they want him. The transfer agreement is so outdated it's not even funny |

This is why part of me hopes that the CHL ends up unionizing. I'm almost certain that if that happens, the transfer agreement goes away.
That being said, there are 29 other teams that are subject to this rule as well. Buffalo isn't the only one being hurt by it. Tim Murray and co. need to figure this thing out. Either send the guy back to Juniors where he will gain little benefit, or take your lumps in a throw away year, and let him slowly develop the strength and mental capacity to function at NHL game speed. |

Which I have been saying for years.
The transfer agreement only benefits the CHL. No two sh!ts are given about what's best for the kids. I realize all NHL are subject to the same rules but this is starting to get ridiculous. Grigorenko, Zadorov, and Reinhart. Two of which aren't even North American. I will stand by my statement that if something isn't done(ie give each team 2 exemptions) you will start to see teams select players from other leagues(Europe and USHL) higher than expected. As they can sign said player two a 3 yr deal, play them in the AHL for 2 years(EL slide rule yrs), thus allowing you to have a 5yr training contract. Making said player NHL ready by 21 or sooner. |

Define "D-Man."

I think the part that really bothers me the most about the Zadorov situation is that he's not even North American. It's like he's being punished for deciding to come to North America to play. If he'd stayed in Russia, he wouldn't be going through this. They could have assigned him to Rochester and nobody would have thought anything of it. I felt the same way about the Grigorenko situation last year.
I get the CHL trying to protect their teams/leagues but I don't see how they should be able to dictate what a Euro player does, especially when they limit the amount of them per team to the extent that they do. They can only dress 2 per game. So in reality, the transfer rule which is set up to make sure that the teams remain competitive and that they have talented players there, wouldn't be that affected by allowing the Euro kids to go to the AHL sooner than the NA kids. |
