I'm pretty sure Messier was brought in to sell Rogers' product to all of Canada, not just Canucks fans. Some people actually remember him as having one of the most impressive careers of any player in the history of the league, as opposed to clinging on to what he couldn't accomplish on a mediocre team from the age of 36 to 39.

So, yo're a Messier fan. No surprises.

Hey k(h)awk, pretty sure you are correct and he was brought in to peddle Rogers crap to all of Canada, not just Canuck fans with long memories. Some people actually remember him as a douche bag even during his "impressive" career.

Enjoy your Rogers anywhere poop while making tissue angels to Messiers photo

My dad used to work as airport security, basically said Messier was one of the bigger d-bags when dealing with the fans here. Meanwhile guys like Linden and the Sedins were/are the complete opposite.

1. Messier's career accomplishments aren't really a matter of opinion.
2. My comment was more pointing out that their choice of celebrity endorsement had more to do with the other 30 million people in the country, who generally still regard Messier as an iconic hockey player (if a bit of a douchebag as well).

As such, it's not really "Toronto" failing to understand Vancouver... it's actually "Vancouver" failing to understand that the decision made in Toronto is much larger in scope than just Vancouver.

Yeah how stupid is the Rogers marketing group using Messier to sell to Canuck fans, if all their decisions keep coming from Toronto they will be in for a big surprise.

There was nothing wrong with HNIC except for McLean, Cherry, Stock and Healy, Rogers should have used "now with 25% less crap" as there slogan for HNIC.
