Some simple numbers that show the offensive potential that Sean Couturier has. It's well documented how Couturier is used. He has one of the highest percentages of defensive zone starts in the League. Which also means that he's spending a lot of time matched up against top offensive players from the opposition. And we all know the Flyers weren't the best defensive team last season. All of which adds up to Couturier spends a lot of time defending in his own end, and not just on the PK.

So let's compare Couturier's ES point totals from last season, to two players on the Flyers who are considered pretty good offensive players. Jake Voracek and Wayne Simmonds.

ES points last season

Jake Voracek 39 ES points
Wayne Simmonds 36 ES points
Sean Couturier 31 ES points.

So those two players, who are considerably older and more developed as players then 21 year old Couturier. Who played in considerably better offensive situations, and with better offensive teammates, only outscored Couturier at ES by 5 and 8 points respectively.

And Couturier's 31 ES points ranked him 51st in the League among Center in ES points last year. Now doing some simple math, there are 30 teams in the League. 4 centers to a team, that equates to 2nd line center ES numbers.

But Couturier doesn't show any potential offensively? Right!!!!

He's in a bad spot. Great individual talents, really bad team mix.

But just moving one of them would bring back a haul good enough to get the team back on track.

It's got to be infuriating to be an Oilers fan right now.

That's why other GM's are saying he's overvaluing them. He's demanding a huge return, they're waiting until he's desperate

There's some good kids there, it's just a mess. No leadership, 2nd year coach. They need a good veteran leader and a couple fo good veteran defensemen
