Adderall.
Um. I've watched the games so far this season and rarely, if ever, look at stat sheets. All I said was Myers is a bum and needs to shoot more and everyone and their brother started pulling stats our of their arses. And yes, Mike freaking Weber has looked better than Myers so far simply because he is doing a competent job doing what is expected of him in his role and Myers, well, isn't. - DynamicThreads
That is your opinion but you aren't going to find many people that share it because well while its your opinion its really um what's the word? Abstract? |

Myers is what he is a really good #2 defensemen doing a good job playing the #1 role on a really bad hockey team. Darcy made him and paid him to be a #1 which most of us know he is not.
However when this team is good again he will be that really good #2 guy and Mike Weber probably won't be in the league because he is not a good #6 guy he is a below average #7 guy.
I understand your opinion is different I just don't understand your opinion. |

A Dman who averages 4 shots a game over 82 games would have 328 shots a season.
According to
http://www.nhl.com/ice/pl...rt=shots&viewName=summary
That would have led the league last year by 70 shots over Erik Karlsson who had 257.
I think your expectations are delusional. |

Which is the plan...the disaster of the 2014-2015 Buffalo Sabres and every single night when anyone volunatraily consumes Fireball.
It's a win win.
As far as Myers playing the point and needing to have more than 4 shots on goal per game lets break it down:
Ovi lead the league in shots last season at 382 total shots almost 5 per game. (he plays almost all 2 minutes of the PP)
The highest shot total for a D was #15 overall Erik Karlsson who had 129 LESS shots than Ovi.
Do you know who lead the Sabres in shots last year? Tyler Ennis, 210 shots good for 54th in the league. - Stripes77

Ok then, Tyler Myers should average 3.1341463415 shots per game.

That would make your opinion more understandable but since you have stated it before that you never said you hate Myers this is where my dilemma begins.
If you hate or dislike Myers for any reason that makes at least moderate sense I wouldn't be having this discussion. I would simply say eh I disagree but I could see why you would say that.
I am just trying to get an understanding of how your brain works to come up with an opinion like that.

Pie sounds good. Pi even better.
But yes, because he is the relationship between our radius and circumference. |

I know I'm a little biased but I truly believe he is a pretty good #1.
He's pinned in his own end for a good portion of the game and is rarely making mistakes. Yes tonight he had 2 turnovers that were head scratchers, but I watch the Subban's and Peitrangelo's do that as well. It's what happens when you play a ton of minutes and try to generate some offense.
I don't think the guy will ever be a 60 point defensemen, but he could easily be a 35-45 point 23-26 minute a night guy on a competent team |

I am incredibly disappointed in him and expect more so I'm being very hard on him and think he needs to shoot and score more because he isn't a physical presence and he doesn't block shots. I think he is highly skilled but refuse to keep making excuses for him like other fans do. He doesn't seem to have much heart and I think he should be putting up numbers regardless of how bad the team is. Since we are comparing dirt to water (Ovechkin to Myers) then I will do the same. Pavel Bure scored 60 goals on a Florida Panthers team that was AWFUL. And he did it what, 2 or 3 years in a row? There is no reason a skilled/good player cannot put up numbers on a bad team.
My conclusion is that Tyler Myers showed us his ceiling in his rookie season and hasn't come close to it since and I doubt he will ever surpass those stats in the future, even if he repeats it several times. To me, he looks like he was drafted as a player who's potential was topped out as a rookie and he doesn't seem like he will ever change his game to a more physical style of play, nor a more gritty style. He is a one dimensional player who needs more skill around him in order to play up to his ceiling and if placed in that situation now, via trade or in 2 years time when our prospects are up and our young players are veterans he will simply top out again at 10g/40a per which is more than acceptable if he is producing those numbers but inexcusable if he hasn't been able to in the past 4 years.
My opinion is based on observation, social awareness and having watched and played hockey for about 25 years amoung other things. Whereas others have argued based on personal feelings, I have made judgement on the player according to his on ice performance, demeanor and attitude, as well as his production.
For the record I think Tyler Myers is a highly skilled player and he has at least proven to be able to put up respectable numbers. however, I think his potential has maxed out and his ceiling has been reached. Because of this, I think he is more valuable in a trade scenario to land a skilled player with high potential and offensive upside. I mentioned Devonte Smith-Pelle from Anaheim as a player I would "trade Myers for straight up" and while that was brash, after having time to think over it, I think if you throw in Cam Fowler that's a trade where both teams win out.
Tyler Myers for Cam Fowler and Devonte Smith-Pelle. And were I GM (having been scolded for saying Myers for Smith Pelle stright up) I obviously wouldn't have been so brash in that decision and having had time to think this over, this is my opinion.

To be honest, I think having the Subban and Pietrangelo types as #1's will be a big part of what ultimately leads to neither Montreal or St. Louis winning a cup in their primes. I have a feeling you're going to see them be like San Jose. They'll be very good for a long time, but always fall short. |

I agree broadie. He looks the best he ever has in his own zone. He is playing huge minutes too. Put him on a team with a good PP and he could really score a lot more. Myers is IMO our best player by far. |
