I didn't realize it was such a contentious point to suggest that Mark Messier is something other than a "stupid" choice as a national spokesperson for NHL hockey on Rogers... my apologies.

In any case, I don't think the Canucks can afford to fall behind like they did in the home opener... but I have trouble seeing the Oilers winning this game, especially with all of the turmoil that's already raining down in Edmonton. Regardless, the bigger test for the Canucks will be against Tampa Bay, which will be the first glimpse of this team against a playoff-quality opponent, as well as their first back-to-back game.

Okay, but does any other part of Canada have tailored regional content with a different Rogers spokesperson? Rogers brought in Messier to be their "NHL Hockey Ambassador"... the fact that he appears in some region-specific ads is a secondary matter, and doesn't necessarily constitute a form of 'Western alienation'.

He wasn't fitting in well IMO, he was third in WR snaps on the team. Still a great weapon, but overpaid for his role with the Hawks. Jets are desperate...as usual. They'll suck as long as Geno is the QB.

I see it the other way around, but TB is a legit contender so even if they don't show up tonight and show up tomorrow instead, they still may have a better shot at a W tonight. That's how much better TB is than EDM.

The Seahawks seem like a team that only wants players who genuinely want to be there, and are always in the right frame of mind to be competitive. I'm guessing that it was either something like Harvin being persistently unhappy with his role, or some kind of comment that the team felt was a significant distraction.

But you're right, it's probably not because of the irresistible value of the pick the Jets were offering up.

This is what also bugs me about Sportsnet. Why do they have 18 @#$@# channels and keep switching Canucks games every time (yes, I know it's probably a broadcast regional thing (I get it with respect to SNO and SNE but not the others). Here are all the channels:
