Thank you, sounds like a barn burner. I guess no video highlights? Are they not available for AHL games? - coffee junkie
All AHL games are streamed on AHL Live (but it's very pricey and the quality is iffy at times) and you can find other streams elsewhere. The Phantoms will probably post highlights on Youtube or their website as well. |

So I back-read yesterday's chat thread. I actually think a trade with Edmonton makes sense, albeit if MacTavish gets a bit more realistic. They clearly need a gritty center, and we need more skill at forward. I'm ok trading either Schenn or Laughton in the right deal.
Here is a major trade that wouldn't happen, but I'd take a chance with:
Flyers: Perron, Klefbom, Draisaitl
Edmonton: B Schenn, Coburn, Laughton - TheGreat28
From all I've read and want to believe, I can't see Hextall moving any of our top prospects - Laughlin, Aube-Kubel, Ghost, Haag, Sanheim, Morin - in the foreseeable future.
Anyone on the big club is fair game. |

I don't see Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Couts or Mason getting traded.
That is their core. I'd be surprised to see Coburn or Streit traded too.

I could see them trying to move Streit in the offseason if they feel Ghost is ready to fill his role |

Streit is safe in my book. He is the PP QB and a leader on D. I want him there to help bring the guys along. There is no way Ghost is stepping into the NHL as a rookie and filling that role.
As far as the D goes I would say Streit is the safest. Then Coburn. From there it gets very iffy.
My core:
G
Jake
Coots
Simmonds
Streit
Coburn
Mason
Tbh, the only guy I'm kind of bummed to leave off that list is Read, but he isn't quite there. |

Well, remember, new draft lottery odds this year. The 5th-10th worst teams have better odds to win the 1st pick, so at least we have that going for us. - TheGreat28
in all likelihood the flyers make the playoffs or at least have a shot so we won't be in that group. hexy will stay the course and in 3 years the flyers may be back near the top and in contention for more than a decent pick or early playoff exit. trouble is even the extreeme tanking that pgh did only got them one cup (and if the flyers could have won that game when they had the 3-0 lead who knows if they even get that). the fact is it is all chance as to whether a strategy brings ultimate success. that said i'm tired of two things: holding on to players that never quite pan out and letting go of guys who go on to blossom in other places.
the other thing which is more of an intangible is the overall compete level. someone posted about a 60 minute effort being easier said than done; some teams work way harder and do not seem to have the issues that the flyers have had for, it seems, the last 20 years w/ lack of consistent effort. |

With no wins through our first four games and the East looking closer than it ever has I'm not sure I agree with this leading statement.
Two more regulation losses without a win and we'll be chasing the unattainable carrot all season. |

just like last year. 1-7 start, everybody counting them out, G guarantees a playoff spot.....who knows, but this is virtually the same group and most think they are playing better so far despite the lack of wins. possible that they are as bad as they look now all season; just as likely is the team gets it together, starts clicking a bit and ends up in the top 20 with a shot a playoff berth looming down the stretch. in some ways i hope the wheels stay off so we get to pick higher |

G isn't going to get lucky twice. He looks weaker than Joe Thornton in the playoffs right now. |

Just saw Lucic gesture for first time. What a assclown. - coffee junkie
I laughed. You know what the way fans are today I have no issue with what Lucic did. Fans are really loud mouthed and talk poop to the players, dump stuff on them in the penalty box. Yea he's suppose to be professional and ignore it but Fans need to realize just because you paid for the ticket does not mean you can do what ever you want. |

It's not the same group. They're missing Timonen. His leadership and effectiveness hasn't been replaced by MacDonald or anyone else. They need Couturier and especially Brayden Schenn to take steps forward this yea to replace Hartnell.
Don't discount that other Metro teams are better than they were last year. The Isles, Devils, even the Caps and Jackets might be better. That can hurt when you have limited spots. |

all i'm saying is nobody can predict based on what we've seen so far. most thought they were F-ed this time last year; not many saw a cup final run coming at game 82 in 2010.....i just don't think this is a basement team that will be in the lottery mix. |

If something doesn't drastically change, and soon, perhaps not the basement, but on the basement steps. |

All that matters is the standings and the Flyers are off to a bad start yet again. While I hope for the same results as last year I cannot expect them. |

Yeah, much ado about nothing. If the league thinks its lewd then go ahead, fine him for the gesture. I have no problem with players taunting fans who are doing the same to them. |

Here is a major trade that wouldn't happen, but I'd take a chance with:
Flyers: Perron, Klefbom, Draisaitl
Edmonton: B Schenn, Coburn, Laughton
Edmonton gets gritty down the middle and much-needed defense. It's also immediate help.
Flyers are taking a risk as Klefbom hasn't blossomed yet and Draisaitl is a talent, but unknown. But we'd get skilled for 1st line with Perron, a more skilled prospect for 2nd line center and a potential top-pairing guy with Klefbom. We'd also get cap relief. But...
in the short term, we'd have even bigger defensive problems. A deal that would make more sense in December than today. - TheGreat28
I don't see what Edmonton gets out of it.
Coburn is the Flyers "#1" who will have to be resigned before the end of next year, otherwise he will probably be looking for 6.5+ according to the market demands.
B. Schenn is a high draft pick, but realistically be no more than a gritty 3rd liner who can contribute offensively and has the ability to move up and down the top 6.
Laughton is B. Schenn, but not as offensively skilled and has a higher defensive potential.
So Edmonton gets meh fill in the cracks for a goal scorer, a 2nd line center who could be a potential cornerstone and a young defenseman who could easily become the Flyers top prospect.
Sounds a little one-sided.
EDIT: Looked at it again, Leon would have to be left off and maybe it would be a fair swap. |
