Gotta love broadcast rules.... Game should be on MSG network, but it isn't on any of the 4 I get, but its blacked out on center ice because I'm in the NY market. Nice...

God I hate the Islanders... The kind of hate where I would like to see that team in Seattle, Quebec or Portland!!!
- lloyd095

does that stem from 93?

Cause mine does....

I do find it hard to hate this team though, they play hard, fast, and fun to watch hockey.....

a very solid win, against a good team that was rolling. The PK was huge tonight, great job by everyone involved there. The only thing I don't like is Scuds with Despres...problem is, do you break up the top 4? I don't see how you can, so I guess have to live with that pairing.
- Thorny

You dont break the top 4 you break the bottom pairing and sit #4. However he is playing the most mins on the PK so until the staff think that the PK results need to change #4 is staying.

Still wanted a 2nd rd pick lol... but spalings play is making me smile more... only wish the 3rd and 4th line can help produce some pts... well the 3rd line... we all know the 4th ain't going to score unless it's Megna sundqvist kapanen out there..
- nh4442

NH, I was thinking the same thing, but Im ok if the bottom 6 just dont get scored against and can get o/zone starts for the top 6.

This means Sid wont have to be used as a defacto shutdown center and we may see career highs for some of those top 6 forwards, if thats the case, we go deep into the playoffs.

Spaling > Advanced stats. Been saying it since the trade. Some guys have something to them and he certainly does. I'm not knocking advanced stats, but it's too early in this new age to determine a players worth simply by possession numbers. The guy is a great fit and will find his true spot in the lineup in due time.
- Topshelf Mountain

People who use the stats only are fools, and those who ignore them are fools too. Combining the stats with watching the game allows cap strapped teams to get the most out of their bottom 6 and their bottom 2 d pairings.

At the moment that is where cups are being won. Not the top end of the roster.

My theory on the bottom 6, which I think most should stick with.

3rd line, able to score some goals and compete against a #1 or #2 line as a shutdown.
4th line, do more harm than good, if they can go positive in the +-, I'll never complain.

Thats all I want from those two lines.

The New York media really hates Pittsburgh. For ten years he played with an 'edge' and now that he is in Pittsburgh, he becomes a dirty player overnight. He has now been on both sides of that type of a play (Kesler on Letang) and I like his response in each instance.

I had no problem with Downie's hit. Fine. I thought we should have got a PP out of it. Other than that, fine.

Its one of those hits that if it had been a penguin on the receiving end I would have wanted someone to step up. Harmonic did the right thing for his team. That's how hockey is suppose to work and be played.

Ever since the crackdown on headshots, any hit that a player is knocked over from seems to be under the microscope. Which is a shame.

Like Despres's game, but he needs a good talking to about the penalties. Thought the high stick call was weak, but it still got called.

Not saying to bench him; just let him know it's a big issue and he needs to learn from his mistakes.

- s0rcerer1984

It's not the penalties, it's the indecision. He does two things with the puck - shoots it or dumps it. Rarely does the puck stay on his stick, and rarely does he calm down and find the open man to pass to. In a possession system that's just not going to work out long-term.

Yep. Nielson was the one reading the puck label. Only questionable thing is that Downie lined him up from a long way out, but he was gliding *most* of the way.

I think they got the call right. He skated like a bat out of hell to get that hit and I think charging was the right call. They saw it was a clean hit though

This. You can say that about everything these days. Everyday someone gets offended on these boards over whatever idea someone else has.

How was it different than the Grabovosky hit? Dude lined him up on the other side of the ice.

Good game last night, NYI are a solid team and Halak played pretty well.

MAF played pretty well too, PH 12 shots! No body misses Neal anymore.

Yes it does... but even in the early 80's I was a kid and tickets were easy to come by. They were the best. However I thought for years this team has been a disgrace. A black eye to hockey.
