He's just too slow- both on skates, and in his reactions to what is going on around him. He really should be an 8, at best, probably more like a 9 or 10. Watch Boychuk....Hornqvist beats him, gets in behind him, and gets one shot before he's cleared out of the area. Strait watched Malkin skate right by him, practically run the goalie over, and then run behind the net, out in front and back around again, and Strait spun around the wrong way five times in a row, three seconds too late each time. I'm surprised he didn't trip himself.
