This is one of the dumb hypothetical trade scenarios, but what would u realistically have to trade away to get Alex ovechkin on jt and okposos left wing? I always dreamed of that being the top line of our Stanley Cup team.
Multiple 1st round picks, griffin Reinhart, and either dal colle or frans Nielsen?
Obviously this is so dumb, but is entertaining to think about...
You're talking about at least 105+ goals from that line alone for the regular season lol. (JT 30, KO 25, AO 50) - Dedshark
I've always been intrigued by that idea myself (not necessarily this specific deal, but just the idea of getting Ovechkin)...one problem, though....we have enough guys on this team who suck ba11s at playing defense. That player doesn't play defense at all, ever. We need to get our collective defensive sh*t together before we bring the likes of him into the locker room. Think about it this way, for a similar comparison- Pittsburgh has Crosby AND Malkin, who are two of the top five players in the league. With this deal, we'd also have that. Pittsburgh has won ONE Cup, despite going 30% on the PP every year. They LITERALLY score 1 or 2 power play goals EVERY GAME of every season, yet still get taken to the cleaners in the playoffs by any team that can play defense properly, like our neighbors in Manhattan.
In short, if I'm Snow, in any trade I make now I'm looking for either another top shelf defenseman, like Boychuk, or another forward who can really play defense to go along with Kulemin and Nielsen- someone who already KNOWS HOW to kill a penalty. Ovechkin would be great for causing the crew on NBC to blab about us constantly...a Patrice Bergeron type would be A LOT more helpful to the team. |

Even the good teams shat their pants from time to time...the real test is will they bounce back....Grabo effects the depth and other teams defensive match up game....we need him back or Grabs...CMac needs to go and at least call up Lee..... - Nolanders

It was a bad game. Every team has them but when they come out like that I have a hard time with it. Unprepared or didnt care. One or the other neither of which is good. - Cptmjl
You cannot HAVE TO score 4 goals every night- it's not going to happen. You will not win more than half of your games giving up 3 goals every time you take the ice- this isn't 1978. I think what I'm trying to say is that the first four games were a charade, to me- the offensive power they showed during those games hid the defense and PK pretty well, and conned some people into thinking they were "much improved". They will not be anything of the sort until I see cohesion on the back end. They'll be better than last year, because they have more talent, but they won't be nearly as good as they can be- and again, to me it's not just a simple matter of "working on the PK". The ENTIRE PHILOSOPHY needs to change, and I just don't see how that happens with this coaching staff. |

Thanks. So far Cronin has accomplished nothing. The PK is no better than last year or the year before that... - JohnScammo
Sorry folks, but while we gave up the 2, one was on a 5 on 3 that is not a surprise, the blame on this one goes firmly on the pp not the pk. We had a 5 on 3 and did not seem to know how to do it. We pushed the puck into their triangle instead of breaking it down from the top. You go 0 for 6 on the pp including an extended 5 on 3 you deserve to lose. So the hype is over, the work begins, lets go beat the leafs. |

The pp failed but so did everything else. They to me just seemed to mail it in. Need to bounce back Tuesday. Halak kept them in it for two periods and the team in fron of him did nothing. Love how weekes on NHL network said that hit by Downie was clean. While he was saying that on the replay you could clearly see both of downies feet off the ground as he collided with Nielsen. |

Its 1 game, 1 loss....
The positive I took out of last nites game was the fact of lousy isles play still hung in the game w/an Elite team in Pittsburgh. With the play against San Jose and now w/Pittsburgh, have to see the that this team has the necessary pieces to compete on a nightly basis. We all see that some/certain players can be replaced as the season continues. Like I mentioned before, this upcoming schedule and west coast trip should give a good analysis of how this teams make-up will be. We/isles are finally a team that has a chance to win on a nightly basis and I haven't seen that in a long, long, long time............. |

Exactly...the problem is the WAY we play defense. That's what I'm saying. Talent is no longer an issue. - dcb1
I would have never guessed that was the point you were trying to get across. |

This game was won with special teams. You can't give the pens that many powerplay sand you can't go 0-6 on your own. Even strength the team was fine for the most part. The test now is how they respond on Tuesday. They weren't at their best last night yet still had a chance to win |

I didn't get that impression...they just seemed to be a half-second off in the offensive zone. They crashed the net and had chances; they just didn't react quite quickly enough to bury it. I think special teams got them a bit out of sync. The PP didn't score and the PK didn't kill, and they had a tough time putting it back together after that. 5-on-5, I think they looked fine. They were moving, or they wouldn't have drawn so many penalties to begin with.
CMcD, for a guy who was supposedly chomping at the bit to get in the lineup, didn't really stand out to me...Cizikas and Martin played a more noticeable 4th line game.
Strome...while he needs to work on parts of his game to become a more complete player...can thread some friggin nice passes. Every game so far he's not only found the right players to give the puck to at the right times, but he's put the passes right on the tape. I know there's a glut at center, but I'm drooling at the idea of having a player like that in the middle one day in the future feeding the puck to two shooting wingers like Lee and Dal Colle. |

Hey, before the Ranger game we said the next three games would be a good first test against three good teams. They went 2-1 and were one bounce away from getting at least a point in the third. I'll take that. Now let's see how they bounce back from a loss and whether this team is built for the long haul of an 82 game season. |

Same crap defense as last year- we seem not to notice that when we score 6 goals, which we now have the talent to do. It's just that it's not going to happen every night- some nights, you need to win 1-0. This was one of those nights, and we have no prayer in he11 of pulling that off- still have no prayer. Still. Just like last year. - dcb1
It wasn't the defense...0 for 7 on the powerplay was the difference...look at it this way if we go 2 for 7 on the PP we win the game 3-2... |

It's not about winning every night and I thought they would lose last night. It's how they lost. Just want to see this team cutoff problems early and not let things built. |

Its not about winning every night its about how they lost. Maybe it was due to the line up changes with the loss of grabo idk but they looked flat last night. I have no problem with a loss in itself but when you dont compete is where I find the problem. There's no need to relax I'm fine. I don't think the sky is falling either I'm just discussing what i saw last night. |

The pp sucked but the bigger picture was it was the players themselves. They couldn't complete a pass whether on the pp, pk, or 5 on 5. They werent executing and there was no battle level to speak of! |

Exactly! Team was way too fancy with the passes and the D zone coverage is still a worry. I'm not saying the sky is falling and I'll take a 4-1 start any time. |

Well I think that's why I got that impression. They seemed a step behind. They had a few chances that their reaction time was completely off. I like Conacher. He's a feisty little SOB but i can't count how many times he was a step behind the pass or wasn't where he should have been on an obvious set play. For a fast guy that's strange. The defense was collapsing on their own net again and weren't standing the Pens up at the blue line. Again, the obvious play to clear it up the boards or off the glass was avoided at all costs for stupid touch passes in their own zone which led to defensive zone turn overs. You look at the score and the shot totals and you think it wasn't so bad but watching the game told a whole different story IMO.
I'm not saying the seasons over here I'm just saying it was disheartening to watch a team that was 4-0 come out flat like that. That's been a recurring theme for a few years now.The pens had numerous high quality scoring chance in the blue paint. Way too many IMO even for an elite team like them. |

It happens to every team in this league. The best teams in the league have stinkers every once in a while. They were just off for some reason last night. It will happen again at some point as well. I'll take the other route, they played like crap last night and still had a chance to get a point against one of the best teams in the league. They are 4- 1 and by some these comments you would think they were 1-4. I didn't see it as a lack of effort as more of they were just off their game last night. |

Hopefully it was just that and they find their game on Tuesday. They somehow stayed in that game yesterday which was shocking. Was watching it with friends and we were all blown away that it wasn't 4-1 Pens going into the third. Halak held them in that game. The guy was battling in his crease all night. Incredible what some decent goaltending can do for a team even when they're not playing up to their abilities. |
