How do you know it will cripple their cap ? How do you you know their were shorter term options ? How do you know the cap is not going up ? Why do you not take into consideration that our young stars will not be on entry level deals or bridge deals? - Maximum Signal
Not all of those bridge deals are incredibly cap friendly. Look at the one Ryan Johannsen just got. Now, he's probably worth the money, but if these guys are going to be as good as we all hope they are, the Moulson contract becomes nothing more than an unnecessary waste of cap space.
Look, I get that he wanted to play here. Good for him. However, merely wanting to play here doesn't make him worth a five year deal. Like I said, if he wanted to be here so badly, why didn't he take a shorter deal. Someone else would have signed here short term. |

I absolutely understand that. What you don't understand is that I don't care. The fact that they felt that a guy on the wrong side of 30 was worth a "5 for 25" says that they still have a lot of improving to do in the player evaluation department. - buffalofan19
But how do you know what options they had ? Do you have a crystal ball that tells you this will cripple us cap wise in 3 0r 4 years . It is not like we have him making 10 million a year . You do know that entry level deals are capped pretty low . . Even Johanson 's bridge deal who most in here covet is only a 4 million dollar hit.

No crystal ball. Just precedent and common sense.
They got Gionta to come here. They got Gorges to waive his no-trade, and they got Meszaros to sign here on a one year deal. It's one hell of a leap to think that their ONLY option to round things out was to sign Moulson for 5 years. It simply makes absolutely no sense at all. |

Probably because we were told that this team would still suck but at least be entertaining under Nolan.... That they would try hard and Nolan would get the best of of his players.
My reply is an emphatic NO Gladiator.

How do you know what other offers he had ? You just assume that Tim gave him that when he did not have to ? How do you know what other players even wanted to consider us? |

It's only been 6 games (many against top tier teams) Give it a little more time. Also Staffords play is basically making our top line play 5 on 4 against players like Bergeron, Getzlaf, Perry ,Toews. Hes a strong role player that strives on an elite line which the sabres lack. |

What precedent where a team 15 million under the cap right was hog tied by a 5 million dollar 4 years from now ? Especially rebuilding with all their young talent on entry level deals or bridge contracts. Come back and gloat about it in 4 years if that is indeed the fact. |

How do you know what offers Moulson had ? Gionta found us attractive as he wants to wind his career down close to home . You can't compare the deals. |

Lots of other teams look like poop . Who were supposed to be better than us . It is still much too early for folks to be this upset . - Maximum Signal
How other teams look is irrelevant, this team hasn't improved special teams in how many years now? Faceoffs are a joke. They're scoring at the same feeble level as last year. They're barely playing 40 minutes per game.
None of that deserves applause because the team is tanking. They can still lose but have the looks of an NHL team. |

The point is that they had people willing to come here on shorter deals, whatever the reason. Common sense dictates there were probably more of those. You seem to be operating under the premise that signing Moulson was some sort of necessity. It absolutely wasn't. |

Problem is the fans. This is our fault. I at least take the blame for rubbernecking at what I knew would be a trainwreck.

IMO, the Sabres and the Bills "WANT TO WIN" but won't go the extra mile to do it. - SABRES 89
I disagree. The Bills and Sabres situations are not comparable. The Bills under Russ Brandon don't know how to win. The Sabres are trying to win through losing. I hope. |

Who besides Gionta and Mezaros who has not lived up to billing . Please tell me who else called Tim expressing interest?

Well, if you listened to his press conference on July 1, there were other players besides the ones they signed that did. He didn't name names, but unless Tim Murray is simply a bold faced liar for sport, those players did exist. |

Who should not be running a team and bigger concern is bottom line . Not product on the field or a winning culture . More worried about selling tickets . To make the bottom line look good.

No special sauce, just the Frank's Buffalo Wing sauce (basically red hot + butter pre-mixed). Just a plain home fryer, not sure the model or anything, but the basket is big enough that I was at least cooking 14 at a time recently. Our old safety fryer only cooked 8-9. |

So your argument as to why this team can't play like an NHL team should is because 4 other teams suck also?
I mentioned that I don't care about other teams, I watch this team. |
