The question is, why would Arizona do that deal? - MBFlyerfan
Gormley is apparently not happy playing in the AHL. Might force them to trade him. |

True. A sideways move at best. Keep in mind though that Gormley might not want to play for them at all though by trade time and they could be desperate.
Otherwise, they'd look for a forward. Laughton perhaps?
Meh. |

What do you think the asking price for Gormley would be? - Roytastic
At a guess? Laughton. Maybe Brayden Schenn. He won't be cheap, he's a top prospect defenseman. On another team, he's likely in the NHL |

oh because the NHL doesn't hand you star players? - 2Real
lord. alright then.
but no, because ive never done a fantasy sport other than football. i'm not used to the notion of an every day check thing, and the idea of categories.
for instance, say your team destroys someone in assists by a landslide, but you just miss out on two other ones, you technically lose, even though you may have had a more dominant area in one aspect. whereas in football, its basically just a total.
and im sorry somehow you ended up with luke schenn out of the deal. |

Elliotte Friedman reports that TJ Brodie extension will be done tomorrow, 5 years $4.65mm AAV. Good deal, that kid could be a number one defenseman some day. He's got all the tools, and eats minutes |

He's producing at a ridiculous clip thus far. 8 points in 7 games or something like that? That could be one of the steals of the NHL. |

Nope.
Flyers have their own picks in rounds 1, 4, 5, 6 & 7 and they own San Jose's 3rd rounder(Tye McGinn trade) and Columbus' 4th rounder(Hartnell/Umberger trade)
Their second rounder is owned by Boston(traded for Andrew MacDonald, and went to Boston in the Boychuk deal) and the third rounder is owned by Columbus (Steve Mason Trade) |

He's a guy I've coveted for a couple years. He's a good young defenseman. One scout I read leading up to the draft used him as a comparable for Sanheim |

That'd be awesome.
While we're on younger dman we've always coveted, how bout Fowler? I've liked him since he was in juniors. I think he could be really, really good.
EDIT: But hey- we have a few in our system that the NHL might be drooling over in a few years for once |

Oh, yeah. He's an outstanding young defenseman. Still kind of surprised he fell like he did in his draft year. |

Thanks. The 3rd rounder on the site I looked at confused me. Ugh, thankfully Hextall got 2 picks back. |

The one that hurts is the pick that ended up in Boston's hands. They should get a really good prospect at that spot. |

Just a tad undersized, I'd say, would be the main reason.
How pissed are the the Panthers, who took Gudbranson at #3?
I forgot that was the year the Blues got Schwartz and 14 and Tarasenko a few picks later. What a haul. Schwartz is gonna be really really good too.
EDIT: Speaking of the Panthers, how long until they become the Oilers? |

true, but I was Ok with the deal to get MacDonald considering just how bad the blue line was. That said, I preferred holding ground then and retaining assets. Let's hope the young guns keep bringing it until we can secure a new blue line. |

They'd need more than 500 people to show up for a game to be the Oilers.
Gudbranson was a good prospect, he's slowly becoming a good NHL defenseman, too. But Fowler has been one for a bit now |

I don't think they needed MacDonald. He was an upgrade, yes, but it wasn't like they upgraded from Karl Dykhuis to Brian Leetch. MacDonald gets credit for helping Schenn step his game up, but in actuality Schenn's game improved when he was paired with Gustafsson, too.
All things considered, I'd rather have the picks back and Stralman or Gilbert signed to a lesser contract. |

I don't see Gudbranson putting up any more than 25-35 points in a season while playing well defensively. Which, by any measure, is a valuable player, but no where near a top 3 pick player.
Fowler looks like he's going to peak as a guy that puts up 55 point seasons while being able to shut guys down.
That's what I'd be looking for from a top 3 pick.
But hey- we all know defensemen are fickle. |

He was banged up and the team around him was terrible. He's got a huge amount of talent and he and Barkov could be a great 1-2 punch. |
