I also read a report that Branden Gromley of the Coyotes is unhappy in AHL and wants a trade. - J35Bacher
Dunno... Maloney doesn't exactly make a habit of trading away home-grown dmen. Summers and Stone spent forever in the minors, now they're finally everyday players at age 26 and 24 respectively. I expect the same will probably happen w/ Gormley.
If he's unhappy, what's he going to do? Threaten KHL?

The rumor is out there, though. It's not as if Maloney will make the move just because Gormley feels he should be in the NHL now. It also won't be cheap for the Flyers to acquire him.
He's the kind of guy they should target, but got to be wary of the cost. |

I wouldn't move Brayden Schenn for him right now, assuming that's the cost.

Streit leaving the front of the net, uncovered, is not part of the Flyers D zone scheme. And by the way, there are many successful teams who play it that way. - MJL

Well worth pursuing though. Arizona needs offense up front and Gormley is exactly the kind of asset on D the Flyers should be looking at: young, inexpensive and won't cost a ridiculous boatload to acquire.
Not sure what it would cost to land him, but I'd certainly offer B Schenn and see what the Yotes say.

I would, I'm just not sold on Schenn ever being more than a 25 goal, 50 point player at best and I'm willing to risk that for a young dman with a lot of upside.

You could be right about Schenn, but Gormley could be a lot less than advertised. He plummeted on draft day (supposed to go top-5), and his progress has been spotty since.
At least we know Schenn's an NHL player... no idea if Gormley is or not yet. Think Adam Larsson... but handled a bit better. |

Yeah, good point. Can't see Maloney moving him cheaply though, every GM out there wants the world to move a dman. |

Not bad numbers for what he is making...those are Ryan Kesler numbers... |

Yeah, 25/60 would be hitting his career potential range. 20/50 ain't far off. |

True
Don't get me wrong, I don't think he is a bad player by any stretch. I just think he's the logical guy to move if they are looking to land a dman. |

Nor would I; I'd want something extra besides Gormley.
Brayden Schenn is another strange case that makes people question the Flyers' evaluation process.
He's bounced from line to line, position to position, shown flashes of skill and been inconsistent. Similar to JvR, except Schenn may not have shown the top end offensive skill that JvR would flash.
That said, when Schenn is on his game, he's definitely got the skill to be a top 6 NHL forward. If they are dangling him to address the defense, it's somewhat understandable. If they're dangling him because they're frustrated with his progress, you have to wonder if there's really that much difference in Hextall & past regimes.

That would be my guess. Simply a case of being deep at center and short on D, IMO |

Schenn also plays about 3-4 less per game than Kesler for those numbers...this is really his 4th year in the league, so I think there is still some more to see from him.
I do agree he has great potential as trade bait for a Dman, but I think if you let him go, you have to have a bonfide #1 Dman coming back, you don't use him to take a shot on someone... |

Suspect he's not untouchable... but doubt Hexy's actively trying to get rid of him. |

Well I probably would have at least insisted on Maloney throwing in a 2nd too.
But yeah, after actually thinking about it, Schenn is a bit much for Gormley. |

That's my hope. The thing is, even if they add Gormley, is he more NHL ready than Alt or Hagg?
I'd still want him, but I wouldn't do Brayden Schenn straight up.
The Flyers have to avoid a modest upgrade for a premium price. They do that far too often. |

You won't get a #1 dman for Schenn. I'd be happy with a 2/3 guy similar to Coburn. |

Yup, if that's the only kind of trade that's out there, sit tight and do nothing.
Homer couldn't bring himself to do that... we'll see if Hexy can. |

I doubt Hextall's actively trying to get rid of anyone up front. I wouldn't be amazed if he's trying to move one of the defensemen out to add picks and possibly make room for one of the kids. I'm sure he'd like to add picks for 2015, and let's face it, how much worse are the Flyers if Alt is playing on the third pair? |

I would be ok if they traded him for another young winger. I dont think this team has the forward depth in the organization to dump him for a d man
