wtf are you talking about. - Tomahawk
You said Grossmann had "a clean bill of health" when we acquired him. Feanor says that his knees were already bad at that time.
Edit: I may have read that wrong. It was implied, I thought you had stated it explicitly. |

But Bogosian and Luke Schenn are two totally different players.
Yet he is still only 24 years old and his cap hit is only 5.142mil. Look at what defenders are getting now. Brodin, Brodie, Gardnier are all getting 4-4.5 million. If I can get my future number one at his cap hit, I think it is a steal because we know the cap will start going up next year. - J35Bacher
IF he is your #1, then yes. But $5.1M for potential is a tough sell to me. |

Yep.. God help us if that doesn't work out. In half season he could become the whipping boy. |

Yeah, that's the difference between Bogo and L Schenn.... Bogo has that expansive upside and has every tool in the box you could want but health... Schenn's upside was based on a role/style that was/is being phased out of the league. - Tomahawk
The role of the defensive physical defenseman will never be phased out of the League. |

I guess but 5.1 isn't what it used to be and when guys are starting to get 7, 8, 9, million I think this risk would be worth it. At 24 I am ok. If he was 29-30 then I would have a different view |

No, but a physical defenseman who contributes little on the offensive side and does not play well defensively is more on the player, not the game. Sure, guys like Weber, Kronwall, even a younger Brooks Orpik will never go away. But you need to be able to do more than just throw an ill-timed hit here and there. |

Flyers development of Schenn and Couts has been horrendous.
If and when they trade Brayden, they will not win the trade. |

A defensive defenseman needs to defend well, which is more then just about throwing hits as you state. There is always going to be a role for that kind of player in the NHL. |

And how great if he did just need a change. Next season you could start reshaping the defensive players like:
Coburn
Bogosian
Streit
MacDonald
Gostisbiere
Morin
Haag
Alt
I like that mix a lot better |

I think Morin is more of the modern defensive defenseman. He can skate, handle the puck a bit and isn't lost in the offensive zone. He'll likely never wow you with great offensive numbers, but his offense won't slow the team down. |

I'm just curious, honestly. Not trying to "pwn" you or anything. But you mentioned his age and cap hit when we got him, then mentioned his age and cap hit "and a poor bill of health" now, which I thought was implying he did not have a poor bill of health before. If not, my bad. |

The clutch-grab/interference rules have halved their effectiveness in front of the net and along the boards. Used to be every team had a Luke Schenn on their top-pair. Not anymore. |

Played 74 games the year we got him, 30 games in the shortened 45 game season and 78 last year... and played in the playoffs until he got hurt...
I must be missing something about his health as he has not really missed much game time due to injury...
He plays a physical game, he is going to be banged up a bit here and there...he ate those boards the other night and was back out a shift later...i don't thin kteams are worried about his health once he has his legs back following surgery.. |

Hes had concussion issues in the past and the surgeries eventually take their toll. It could slow down an already very slow player. Those are probably the major concerns. No one can question is toughness and ability to play through pain though. |

Agree, that is why I think he could garner some solid interest at the TDL if the Flyers looked to move him... |

Actually Derian Hatcher in his prime is a good comp for Morin. Big, mean, decent skills and mobility. I'd be thrilled with that. |

There's other options that don't have the cumulative injury burden and the extra year on the contract that will be more attractive |
