There are good reasons.
The most obvious was the way Pronger played the game as opposed to both Jagr and Timo. - 77rams
Pronger is physical, but he is also much bigger than Timonen, and Chelios to give another example.

Who is to say the flyers don't win Stanley Cup at least once during the last 3 seasons with a healthy Pronger? Maybe the JVR deal is never made if Pronger was healthy? So many what ifs that its all pointless speculation at this point. I will say I'm glad they got Pronger..... He was the most enjoyable player I've watched on the flyers in a long time and that 2010 run was amazing from the rangers shoot out, to the Boston comeback, to the Stanley cup finals. I don't think that happens without him. - moylander
Fair.
I don't doubt a great many people thought it was a worthwhile trade. Some didn't. Both have their opinions. Both are legit. |

It's not hindsight when at the time ppl said this is gonna hurt us. It ALMOST worked but the fact remains that trade blew up in the flyers face. Right now we could really use lupul, who knows with Sbida, and at least one of those draft picks would have got u a roster player. As far as timmonen and Jagr being effective, yea they're effective but they're very limited too. I'm sorry but as much as I lved pronger as a player homer grossly overpaid. - JoeRussomanno
Yeah I guess we could use another 2nd or 3rd line winger like Lupul, and another young defenseman who may or may not be able to crack the lineup like Sbisa. You can never have enough of those. John Moore (2009) first rounder was a real steal. As was Emerson Stem.
yeah, Ill take all of them over Pronger....

I think the trade was risky. They gave up a lot (obviously) but also went to the finals as a result. I said when it happened, if they don't win it all this is a bad trade. Well, they almost did, and if Pronger hadn't been hurt they may have. Certainly, we would not have seen as many ridiculous trades for D men as we have in the last few years. Overall I am glad they went for it, just as I was happy they offer sheeted Weber. I loved the Homer BIG gambles. History favours the bold IMHO. Sucks that we are suffering now (but that was a freak accident). |

Will the RJ for Hartnell trade be positive or negative for the Flyers both in the short and long term?
Ohhh, and any interest in Sekera via EK rumour? |

I'm sure there's plenty of aging star players available, the flyers have a ton of youth, let's go hextall, we need to plan the parade. |

I think it'll end up washing out, all things considered, including RJ coming off the books sooner.
And meh. It'd be an upgrade I guess, but I don't put stock in his rumors pretty much ever until the big dogs start tweeting it as well. |

I think Sekera is a nice player, but he's a FA this offseason and will be one of the better Dmen thats traded this season. The price to acquire him then re-sign him before FA is just too much for a team with little cap space thats building for the future imo. |

Oh, agreed, EK is a jester. but would you have any interest? What is the most you would give up? Akeson and Shultz? |
