I think Sekera is a nice player, but he's a FA this offseason and will be one of the better Dmen thats traded this season. The price to acquire him then re-sign him before FA is just too much for a team with little cap space thats building for the future imo. - PhillySportsGuy
I have no idea what he would go for in a trade, thoughts? Seems like a player that is a #3 at best being slotted as a top 1-2 right now. |

Who is overrated in the metro? - coffee junkie
CRIBNEY SNOSBY
EDIT: I definitely think someone like Lunqvist is overrated. He's good, but he's overrated. Same with Dupuis. |

Amac went for a 2nd and 3rd. Flyers need to keep their draft picks and prospects. Hurricanes won't be interested in NHL players unless they can help them in the future as well. |

Good point. I don't have interest either as I agree he is a one year stop-gap. Just curious. |

FYI:
Tony Dean, the Wild Blogger here at HB has Frick (Richards) playing 1st line LW with Kopitar tonight.
Mike Richards-Anze Kopitar-Justin Williams
Tanner Pearson-Jeff Carter-Tyler Toffoli
Dwight King-Jarret Stoll-Dustin Brown
Kyle Clifford-Andy Andreoff-Jordan Nolan
If true, I guess Richards has responded well to the criticism. |

I just think Hextall has to get a deal done for D help, most likely with a western team. Mason got hung out to dry last night and iIMO it is time to move the Schenns as a package or separately. |

I think the trade was risky. They gave up a lot (obviously) but also went to the finals as a result. I said when it happened, if they don't win it all this is a bad trade. Well, they almost did, and if Pronger hadn't been hurt they may have. Certainly, we would not have seen as many ridiculous trades for D men as we have in the last few years. Overall I am glad they went for it, just as I was happy they offer sheeted Weber. I loved the Homer BIG gambles. History favours the bold IMHO. Sucks that we are suffering now (but that was a freak accident). - coffee junkie
Ah yes, the magical stanley cup final run. Held up by many as the Pronger trade holy grail.
I really think that season get's looked at through orange colored glasses way to much. The Flyers were not a dominant team, even with Pronger. They qualified for the playoffs on the last day of the season, on a rare shootout win and then exemplified the term "cinderella team". Not favored in any series, using a backup goalie who had by far his best season of his career.
It was a great run, no doubt and if they'd won, someone probably would've made a movie about it because it was so improbable. The number of things that went right for the Flyers that year are probably on par with your chances of winning the lottery.
Then the next year Pronger plays 50 games battling through a number of injuries (one or two which could portend Pronger's body breaking down) and Holmgren blows up the team.
When you blow up a team only 1 year from a Stanley cup final run that tells me one thing, Holmgren realized the run was a fluke and that he had made big mistakes with the roster.
The players he got back in the Carter, Richards trades were all young or draft picks. There could be no real expectation that these young players would be ready until Pronger was getting ready to retire at the age of 40 (I have yet to see a player on those long term contracts play once all the money is gone on the contract).
Holmgren had to know this. Before the eye injury. I also have to wonder if Pronger fighting through his injury plagued season at the age of 37 was another brick in his reasoning for the full blown rebuild.

This team isn't going anywhere this year. They'll likely just miss the playoffs by 5 points or less or just make the playoffs by 5 points or less.
The team shouldn't make any move unless it helps the future of the franchise. |
