Well, he made it seem like the team needs to make a move to help the team now. |

I just think Hextall has to get a deal done for D help, most likely with a western team. Mason got hung out to dry last night and iIMO it is time to move the Schenns as a package or separately. - 3flyerkids
I disagree. It's this type of thinking that hamstrings the Flyers every year. It's the "playoffs or bust" every year that has the Flyers trading for every UFA dman every year. It's like every year they think they are only 1 piece away from the cup and that one piece is slow footed defensive defenseman that they wouldn't even have looked at in the offseason but now becomes a must have and needs to be resigned because they gave assets up for him.
This team doesn't need 1 defenseman it needs 3 or 4 (or 1 or 2 if they are top pairing). There's not a defenseman on this team who shouldn't be playing less minutes than they are. |

So why not a guy like Josi? He's 24 and can help now and for years to come. Kind of like when they acquired Coburn. |

If you can find someone to take Zhitnik (Grossmann or L. Schenn) off the Flyers hands and give you Coburn (Josi) go for it.
I have to give Holmgren props for that trade, the Atlanta GM was extremely desperate.

Because he'd cost Laughton and a pick most likely. |

No I am not. This team was one win away from round two last year. This team is better than their record indicates.
It should be fixed. I am not saying their Cup contenders but they can make the playoffs and have a solid season if their weakness is addressed.
Why not move the Schenns? We have great D prospects to coming. Would Laughton give you much less than B Schenn if given the chance?
I just think we could get something for them that would help now and in the future. |

Why doesn't everyone just settle down and be patient with this D core? Why get Myers or Bogo and their ridiculous contracts, when we can just draft D.
I don't get the love for Tyler Myers. Had one good season as a rookie and fell by the wayside. Seriously. He's not even a bright spot (meaning he doesn't stand out so much) for the Sabres and they are terrible. |

That won't happen unless it's at the deadline. You'll never get a deal like that ever again.
Atlanta was making the playoffs for the first time in their history, they wanted defensive depth. Zhitnik (for whatever reason) fit that bill for them. |

This team isn't going anywhere this year. They'll likely just miss the playoffs by 5 points or less or just make the playoffs by 5 points or less.
The team shouldn't make any move unless it helps the future of the franchise. - PhillySportsGuy
They were within two goals of beating the runner up finalist. They're much better than u give them credit for. A little tweaking and this team could look better.
I look at this team like a piece of slightly vercooked toast, a dash of butter or jelly and it is a whole different snack. |

Luke holds very little trade value right now. He's a FA after next season and has only had one 20 game stretch where he didn't look like a third pairing, defensive defenseman (lockout shortened season while playing with Kimmo).
Brayden Schenn's value is higher, but it's not going to bring back a Josi type player. He'd bring back a 3/4 defenseman. |

I feel that series was mis-leading. They were completely outplayed at 5v5. Their PP and goaltending kept them in that series. There is no way they can be a true competitor while playing poorly at 5v5. |

They can do that themselves with better passing and positioning; this team is a bit lax in the fundamentals department.

It will take more than a piece or two unless those pieces are great talents. The forwards play sporadic defense and most of the defenseman aren't capable of making a pass longer than 30 feet.
I was hoping they'd improve the 5v5 play with some subtle moves this offseason like moving VL and bringing in a more skilled player to play with Couts and Read. Instead they traded Hartnell for a bad 5v5 player in Umberger. Then they lost their best defenseman, Timonen. |
