Kimmo didn't have canon (but man, Ghost sure does) but he had an accurate shot, and was very good at getting it through. Streit gets more than his fair share blocked.
One thing I noticed about Streit on the PP is his pass catching. He seems to have a bit of an issue when pucks are passed back to him, they seem to slip off his stick easily. - jmatchett383

I just picture him talking to someone like Hagg and yelling at him to sharper his skates more.
"Listen you. I lost a many fights in my day with dull blades. You must sharpen them by hand with this blade before every game. Like this, see?"
No wonder Hagg doesn't have interest all the damn time. |

I like your optimism.
So, about the Penguins giving us Crosby at 50% retained for us to dump Ghost, Alt, Morin, Hagg, and Sanheim...how we doing on that one? - jmatchett383
whoa. thats your cupboard of future allstar blueliners. what kind of pal would i be if i required you to dip into that well for a guy like Crosby? Hell, you guys are overly encumbered at center as it is.
now for a fine, sticker laden vancouver grizzlies hat, we could be talkin' malkin. |

we'll give you the hat, but if you want the stickers you gotta throw in a 2nd rounder |

I'd be fine with adding Sekera, but no interest in paying any kind of premium price for him. Certainly zero desire to trade for him and then hand him a deal for 5 years at $4 or $5mm per - Jsaquella
You won't get a top pairing UFA dman for anything less than five years at $5 million. |

Sell the dead weight. Kick Holmgren's ass to the curb. Get Cote the (frank) away from coaching.
Grab the testicles. Stay the course. Back with a Vengeance. - flyer_nutter
But if this is all there is for me life offers
Why bother even try and put up a fight, it's nonsense
But I think a lightbulb just lit up in my conscience
What about those rhymes I've been jottin'?
They're kinda giving me confidence
Instead of tryna escape through my comics,
Why don't I just blast a little something like Onyx
To put me in the mood to wanna fight and write songs that
Say what I wanna say to the kid that said that I eyeballed him
Grab hold of my balls like "that's right fight's on female dog" |

I have no problem paying Sekera 5 million a season, but that term's too rich for sure. I don't see why they wouldn't take Grossman back. He's a solid NHL defensemen with a more than reasonable cap hit, and is only signed for next year.
Either way, I think the team should explore trading Brayden Schenn. - mochoson
Soooo....what you're saying is that you don't really like Schenn??
I'm with you...just never warmed up to him and I don't think he's good at all (Queues MJL's response...."do you really think he would be in the NHL if he wasn't good?")

A wise man once said, "I'm better than dirt. Well...most kinds of dirt. I mean not that fancy store bought dirt. That stuffs loaded with nutrients. I...I can't compete with that stuff."
Sekera is the nutrient-infused dirt to the common dirt that is the rest of our defense - jmatchett383
His numbers last season, both advanced and regular, were fairly impressive. Unlike Niskanen, we'll get to see if he can continue that trend for another season before he hits FA. There is no way I would trade for him this season unless the Flyers prove to be 1 Sekera away from a cup. I would have interest in him as a FA though. |

True, although I feel Sekera is more Coburn than Timonen. He's very solid, plays well at both ends of the ice and has a generally positive effect on his teammates.
I guess I just see him as more of the same. This defense corps has a lot of guys who are fantastic Robins, but they lack a Batman. IMO, Sekera is just another really good Robin. |

It's a possibility. However, it was widely reported at the time that the Flyers and Carle were close to an extension, or had actually agreed to terms before the season ended.
Those reports may be incorrect, but in most of them, both Holmgren and Carle expressed an opinion that the re-signing would be an easy one. I'm guessing after Wideman's deal,Carle's camp re-evaluated things and upped the ante, which led to the Flyers pursuit of Suter and eventually Weber.
Oh, and just to clarify the issue of tagging space, the Grossmann deal was signed AFTER the trade deadline, which means had the Flyers wanted to sign Carle during the season, the would have had to run somebody through waivers to trade them and open tagging space. - Jsaquella
From what I heard, the Flyers and Carle had a handshake agreement prior to the end of the season.
But once Wideman signed his huge deal with Calgary, Carle's agent reneged on the handshake and went to the highest bidder in free agency.
You can argue, however, that the Flyers shouldn't have put themselves in a position to have to wait to officially sign Carle until July 1st of that year. |

I actually like Sekera. I think he's going to get a Niskanen type deal though. I think he'd, arguably, be the 1st or 2nd best defenseman on the Flyers. |

I like him, too. And honestly, if they could trade L. Schenn or Grossmann for him and sign him for 2 or 3 years at $4.5mm, Giddyap.
But he will cost more and likely demand a deal similar to MacDonald. |

I'm going to assume Carolina would want more than Schenn or Grossmann . I wouldn't trade for him. I would offer 4 years $5M for him though. Especially, if we can move guys like Schenn, Grossmann, Amac or Streit. |

That's the real question to me, not a 5 x 5 extension which I would happy to give him if he played as expected for several months. |
