yep.
thats been the problem with both PA teams for little while now.
on any given night, they could handily beat or get thumped by any team in the league.
i know there is parity, but they just ooze inconsistency. - stayinthefnnet
Yep. I think the Pens end up getting off their game when they play a team that gets in their faces and gets a bit nasty. That's how the Flyers have beat them lately. |

I'm stunned the Flyers played as well as they did in Dallas. They were the better team for stretches. If they could eliminate the breakdowns, they win going away. The trouble is, they've been prone to those breakdowns for awhile - Jsaquella
Agreed. When I reviewed the stats, I was shocked to see that we outshot them by quite a margin. With the lineup Dallas puts out there, I thought they would take it to us and they'd destroy. The team showed some resiliency for sure, but another factor was that, for some reason, we are kryptonite for Lehtonen. I believe he's like 0 and 10 vs us in his career and I think he really played an average game. Can't expect that to happen and for us to get 6 goals every game. |

Couts and Schenn and even Read were all really good
Voracek too but I almost expect that from him - Marc D
They had several guys step up and play well. Maybe the road trip will help. |

Yeah, Seguin landed in Dallas and untapped his full potential. He & Benn might be the best line ate combo in the NHL...and they will get Nichushkin back soon enough - Jsaquella
Agreed! Seguin and Benn are definitely an awesome duo right now. |

Most of the board-certified worthless Flyers had good games Saturday night. It has to be encouraging... unless your name is D. Downer, of course. |

Yeah, Lehtonen was leaky. The Giroux OT winner was definitely one that he'd like back.
But if they clean up the breakdowns, they don't need 6 to win |

I'm not stunned that they played as well as they did in the 1st and 3rd periods. The Flyers have shown in parts of the season that they are capable of playing quality hockey against good teams. Unfortunately they've also shown that they're capable of periods like the 2nd period. |

They are just so undisciplined in their own end. I watched the game against Vancouver, just to kill time. Within 5 minutes I was screaming at the TV. They were making so many simple mistakes-they overpersued and left guys open, got stymied and got to running around almost everytime the Canucks got sustained zone time and kept getting caught with guys out of position.
One that stood out to me was a play behind the net. The one D was behind the net, the other D went to the near post. The back checking forward drifted to the same post, and Scrivens had to go post to post quickly to prevent the goal. - Jsaquella
I can honestly say I've never seen anything quite like how the Oilers play defense.

Some things he did will be, for sure. But the long term impact of that contract was going to be hard to deal with. |

I rarely get fired up at non-Flyers games...holy cow I was yelling at them, asking them why they hated Scrivens so badly |

That's the real key isn't it.. Last year, the road trip west really set them up to make the playoffs. Maybe they have a solid trip here as well.. Darren Millard said today on sportsnet hockey central that the team that has disappointed him the most with their bad start is the Flyers..I was kind of surprised, but if he expects better, so should I.. |

With the Flyers, some of it is just pure athletic limitation of some sort, overslotting.
With them, I kinda wondered if they were all that interested in actually playing it. Now, the results are the same, if you're getting strafed for 4, 5, 6 every night. But how you get there can feel totally different |

Didn't they try to play Schultz as some type of psuedo D-man/Foward for a few games? They put out two D men and two forwards and had him play in between the four. Because he's really that bad defensively. |

I assume they don't want to hear it, but he is one of the prime suspects up there for why they stay bad -- plays a ton of minutes, but is as bad defensively as I've seen in a while.
That doesn't mean he shouldn't be in the NHL or anything. But he's so poor defensively, you can't play him 20-plus minutes a night -- he's no better defensively than Andrej Meszaros was on Meszaros' bad nights.
