Schenn has 45 points in 40 AHL games, and Couturier had 28 points in 31 AHL games. - MJL

He was only asked to do that last year and those were not only asked but put in the spots from the start or more often, not exactly something I'd compare.
But have at it. - ob18
I get that part of it, and I'm not saying he's going to be Adam Hall in the NHL...but people expected more offense out of Schenn and Couturier because they spent the majority of their junior careers as top level scorers, while Laughton did not.
That said, Laughton's looked great in the two AHL games I've watched, so I have few doubts he will produce at the NHL level |

Posting it late, is definitely much better then not being aware of it, and posting that they were rather average down there!

I have no doubt Couturier will score more but they still seem to go back to using him in a shutdown role & if that's the case then somebody like Laughton should be here now or just use Bellemare in that role.

And wrong. Schenn has 45 points in 40 games with the Phantoms. Also had 7 points in 7 games with Manchester, while with LA. |

Laughton should absolutely be here now. No argument there. I'm guessing they'd rather have him learning in the AHL than getting buried up here if/when Berube gets scrambly |

I cannot believe he wasn't called up the moment Vinny couldn't go. In fact we could really use him this week. |

Sorry I don't research everything... But for some reason I remember them not being so spectacular down there. |

My guess is that Hextall wasn't sure whomever he recalled would be dressed by Berube, or that Berube requested VandeVelde. |

i think laughton will be good. if he can take over that third line slot, couturier might get a chance to focus on offense for a change instead of constantly being burdened with the hardest defensive assignments. i think coots is a really nice player to have, but i dont think he will ever be able to fully display a ton of offensive potential while still drawing EVERY tough defensive assignment. |

Yep. That'd be my big concern if Laughton was up. What happens if they have a bad game? Does Berube bench him for a few? That won't help him much.
Still would rather see him up. With his motor and the way he plays, I doubt he'd get scratched too often by Berube |

Ben Scrivens was definitely at the edge of his crease but I do feel like he was impeded from making that save. |

They talk on and on about how they want Couturier to step up offensively and assume a bigger role, and then he gets 70% of his zone starts in his own end vs the opposing team's top line and people think he can't score. |

I don't want to take anything away from Bellemare because he's been really good but I also felt like he was the glue on that fourth line with Rinaldo and Akeson.

Lightning forward didn't exactly have freedom of movement. If the other Oiler isn't there, no question it's no goal. But Boyle has nowhere to go. |

The games I have seen Laughton play, he's a guy that 99% of coaches would like. |

i dont think coots is ever gonna be a 40 goal 80 point player or whatever. but if they ever want him cemented as that second line center, it remains to be seen if he can or cannot put up numbers that go in line with that role. however, if they want him to do that, they cant keep putting him in that position. when youre in that role, breaking even more times than not is your objective. he does that just fine, but you cant expect him to chip in 30 goals while doing it either. its a tough and unfair spot for him i think. |

Sure but if you go to the left side view, ben Scrivens got his right pad stuck on the two players in front of him. |

Agreed. But I think he could be a 20-25 goal scorer with 50-60 points.
Even this season, they gave him Simmonds and that was over after two games. The usage didn't change a bit. I was hoping Laughton would stick and take some of that burden. I think that the Giroux line could take a bit of that too. |

Yep. But it's two opposing players. if the Oiler defenseman is why Boyle is in the way, why shouldn't it be a goal? If Boyle was there on his own and got int the way, I agree. Not fair to punish Tampa because Ference tied up Boyle in the way of the goalie |

if youre putting simmonds on the line with coots, you need to change the usage rates, if only because i think that is a poor use of simmonds. i want simmonds as close to the opposing net as much as possible, and having him out there starting in his own zone (coots or not) just doesnt seem smart to me.
