You really think Pronger would still be playing well at 40?
If he didn't have that ocular concussion there would have been other injury things coming up more then likely.
He may have been able to play but he would have not been the same force. |

Sure but BSchenn getting a young top pair Dman will never happen.
- Marc D
True, but BSchenn for Sekera + Carolina's 2nd might be possible. Sekera is 28.
Top pairing is then Sekera-Coburn. Raffl stays as 1LW until they feel comfortable trying Bellemare there. |

Well, they did trade Lindros.
And they gutted their core to get Lindros.
And they traded Upshall and bought out Bartulis. - jmatchett383
They traded Lindros after 8 years when his brain was mush and everything else that could have gone wrong did. They didn't really gut their core to begin with because they didn't really have a core to gut. Forsberg had never played an NHL game and aside from Ricci (for his age and potential at the time plus some NHL success), I would argue the other guys were supporting players. Upshall was nothing and Bartulis would have won the Norris if he was as good as Lidstrom. |

I'd rather keep Schenn than deal him for Sekera. Only a slight upgrade for the price of a 23 year old with upside. |

Well for the average NHL defender. Not by his standards, though. |

I am starting to love this pick. I know it is early but those comparisons to McDonaugh seem to be pretty good. Still lots of time but seems like this could be a steal. |

For Sekera straight-up? No no no. Would want multiple picks/prospects coming back. |

What if you got Skinner and Sekera for Schenn and Schenn.
Yes I know the concussions. Just was curious |

Sekera is UFA after this year.
I'd keep Brayden unless they are offering Faulk in a deal.
Which is not happening. |

Me too. But I feel like it's the kind of value he has. He's not going to bring home a guy like Shattenkirk. |

I absolutely think he would still be playing well. PLus the leadership and accountability he would bring to the locker room cant be overstated. |

Kid looks like the real deal. Haven't had any time to watch him yet this season but he's making it damn near a priority for me to fit him a game into my schedule. I think if this kid puts enough meat on his frame over the next year he has a serious shot of making the club as early as next season.

More importantly he would have been playing well in 2012 which is when we acquired Grossmann and LSchenn. |

Love his skating and offense.
He is a twig though.
Hopefully he can fill out a bit before comparing him with McD. |

I think part of the Schenn trade was derived from how well the team did in 11/12 with JvR missing most of the year. Their offense was not an issue that year, and they did it largely without him. They felt that the trend would continue, and that adding a more defensive defenseman would help on the back end. Sadly, did not work out that way. |

Brayden isn't going to get you close to Faulk.
I'd take Sekera in a heart beat, even if you lose him for nothing. I don't think they would though. Id send Grossman the other way and try and make it into a bigger deal if I had to.
Then again, I'm very high on Sekera, so I totally understand if the idea isn't supported here on these boards. |

I guess I'm pessimistic but I would expect him to have a crippling back or knee injury if the concussion never happened. |
