Jacob582 posted this in the last (not current) Garth thread:
"The Stars have made the decision to play 2014 first-round draft pick Julius Honka in the AHL this season."
Honka played last season with Swift Current of the WHL, and would typically have to return there under the agreement between the NHL and Major Junior hockey. However, he was on loan from Finland to the WHL, so he’s not allowed to go back to junior this year, according to Nill. That meant the choices for the Stars were to send him back to Finland or send him to the AHL. The Stars have decided to place the 18-year-old with the Texas Stars and leave him there for the season.
“It was a decision that we talked about, and he wanted to play in the AHL, so we feel good about this,” Stars general manager Jim Nill said. “In seeing him in Traverse City and in training camp, he’s a very mature player who is more than ready for this. If we didn’t think he could handle it, we would have made a different decision, but he proved himself.”

So if Honka was on loan from a Euro team and they wouldn't allow him to be assigned to Juniors, why can't Buffalo do the same with Zadorov and put him in Rochester? - stashu
Because it's a Buffalo team.... |

Since I know I won't be playing any of you folks in HBSL, just got news Hedman is out 4-6 weeks. Glad I saw it since I had him on my roster. - stashu
I have to set my lineup when I get home. The fantasy section is restricted here at work, so I have to try and remember to do it as soon as I get home. |

Thanks for the heads up.
I didn't put two and two together there. |

First of all, this whole thing is a mess. Second of all, if this is really the case, then I don't see why Zadorov couldn't go to the AHL. But it also raises the question of why Grigorenko wasn't eligible for the AHL then last year as well.
I'm so confused.
The only thing I can think of is that the KHL/CHL transfer rules are different than the Finland ones. - HonkFortheGoose
I think the devil is in the details. Finland is considered to be "loaning" Honka to the WHL team. The Russian teams are not. Why that is, I have no idea. It's not just about the CHL-NHL transfer rule at this point. It's about the agreement between the CHL and the Finnish league, as well as between the CHL and the KHL. It sounds to me that the Finnish league has the ultimate decision as to what happens to the player as opposed to the CHL team. |

I believe the Zadorov catch is that his KHL Team wants him there. He was loaned but has one year left on KHL (Russian Jr) rights agreement. So it is NHL or KHL since they won't loan him.
The call on Notre Dame is a tough one. The DB pressed but receiver never tried to run a route. As a Notre Dame fan, it sucks but I think refs made right call. |

The ND coach wasn't going ballistic. That's what made up my mind for me on that call. |

Yeah, but he did do this:

Brian Kelly is usually composed like that simply because they still had another play to run. |

I thought grigorenko still had junior eligibility and only threatened khl where in zadorov's case it's either NHL or risk loaning him out to khl. |

That's what I said an hour or so ago. Might as well just keep him here and let him play. Not necessarily every game, but maybe like 6 out of 10 or something like that. He's physically ready, he just needs to work on his attitude at times and the mental side of the game. |

In a throw away year like this, if a player can't really benefit from playing in Juniors, or can't go to Juniors without making things difficult, keeping him in the NHL should be a no-brainer. |

They obviously don't like the idea of sending him to the KHL, because if they didn't care, it would have happened already IMO.
I just don't get why they haven't let him play at least a game or two at this point either. It's not like he's going to be a liability in the lineup. Meszaros and Benoit have that title locked up already. |

This is getting into borderline conspiracy theory, but perhaps they're keeping him around, letting him practice, watching his workout, nutrition, etc., and trying to see if they can do this all without blowing a year of eligibility. |

Haha as bad as Benoit has looked zadorov could look worse, at this point. He might get circles skated around him. Then again he might be able to win more corner battles and move guys from our net front. I'd like to see what he could do aswell. Maybe scratching him helps us retain a year of his elc |

They can't possibly keep him here all year and not play him in any games though. That would hurt him more than anything. He's gotta play. |

I'm pretty sure just being on the roster for 20 some games will use a year of his ELC anyway. |

That was probably done on purpose.
I received a $100 gift card to Stubhub a while back, and keep forgetting I have it. Just bought some 300 level tickets for $45 each with it. I figure those tickets will rise in price. Either I go cheap, or I resell them at a premium. |
