I think Berube would rather not have any of them. But just waiting for the prospects to come up - J35Bacher
Well, sure. He'd rather have LA's roster or Chicago's. Who wouldn't? If I'm just waiting for the prospects to come up, I'm playing the kids on my roster, who I'm not sure about, to see what I have there. I'm playing them game in and out and playing them regular minutes to be as sure as I can be what I have there.

Except maybe Matt Read isn't good at the left wing and prefers the right. - KGBflyers10
Matt Read was fine at LW last season. |

Berube cast Akeson, a player with offensive skills, in a defensive/forechecking role. Big surprise that he didn't "play well."
It's like asking a cat to bark, and getting mad at the cat for not being able to do it.
The root of the issues with Berube, that I've seen, stem from his inability to get the most out of this roster. We all know he hasn't been dealt a great hand. But many feel like he could do more.
Things like:
- Overplaying/overvaluing Andrew MacDonald
- Under-utilizing Jake Voracek at even-strength
- Overplaying/overvaluing R.J. Umberger
- Overplaying/overvaluing Vinny Lecavalier
- How he handles the goaltending starting assignments
- Not giving Brayden Schenn more of an opportunity at 1LW
- Not giving Matt Read a chance at 1LW
- Not putting Jason Akeson in more of an offensive role
- Not developing Sean Couturier's offensive game
So you may disagree with each of these points, but that doesn't change my opinion on how I would handle the team. - bradleyc4
But Umberger is faster and more disciplined. Why isn't this working out? |

I mean, he's an improvement over Rosehill. That's a positive remark, no? |

In Akeson's case how much more do they need to see? They see him at practice. He spent 4 years in the organiztion minors. What secret skillset will come out that they are hoping to find? |

Akeson has played 13 NHL games. For at least 7 of those 13, in the playoffs, he was one of their most effective skaters. That should be enough to want to see more, to see how sustainable that level of play is |

Whereas Chris Vande Velde has played almost 50 career NHL games and has been irrelevant in almost all of them.
Bench Akeson for Laughton, or Leier, or Cousins.... fine. But for VDV? Yuck. |
