they were selling crickets that were fried and eaten with chili powder, lime and hot sauce in the town square in Oaxaco when I went there
- Marc D
Ugh, I was once at my wife's best friends house for a party and her husband is one of those gluten free people and she served cookies and told me after that they were made with cricket flour.
I was unhappy and the cookie wasn't that good. |

Yeah, they're practically a superfood.
Can't wait until they're right on the shelves next to the coconut water, gluten-free xyz, chia seeds and kale chips. |

Yep. It boils down to if we want to save a few bucks and drive 15 minutes to Rio Grande or just get it over with at Acme |

We have a Acme & a ShopRite. That's it for 20+ miles. You should see when we head up the road to Costco. We have coolers so stuff doesn't melt - Jsaquella

There's a few good butchers shops nearby, but for stuff like ground beef or chicken breast I go to the Acme. |

Berube cast Akeson, a player with offensive skills, in a defensive/forechecking role. Big surprise that he didn't "play well."
It's like asking a cat to bark, and getting mad at the cat for not being able to do it.
- bradleyc4
I agree that Akeson is not suited for 4th line duties, but the bottom line is that there are better players ahead of him on the roster. And he can earn more playing time by playing better. Like most young players do.
The root of the issues with Berube, that I've seen, stem from his inability to get the most out of this roster. We all know he hasn't been dealt a great hand. But many feel like he could do more.
Things like:
- Overplaying/overvaluing Andrew MacDonald
- bradleyc4
Berube knows that he plays MacDonald too much, and even said so recently. But he doesn't have a lot of choice there. The Flyers don't have a legitimate top pairing defensively, and MacDonald is one of the best choices they have. And MacDonald is a far better defenseman then some fans such as yourself give him credit for.
- Under-utilizing Jake Voracek at even-strength
- bradleyc4
He doesn't under utilize Voracek at ES. The problem is the type of icetime that is available at ES. Flyers face lots of D zone starts, which the Couturier line takes a lot of. Which is why Read and Couturier are high on the team in ES icetime. And that's because right now, the Flyers are very inconsistent as a team defensively, and he only trusts the Couturier line in the defensive zone. If the Flyers were a better defensive team, and controlled the puck more, Voracek's ES icetime would go up. So stating that Berube underutilized Voracek at ES, is flawed and incomplete analysis. Bottom line is more offensive opportunities available at ES, the more ES icetime Voracek will get.
- Overplaying/overvaluing R.J. Umberger
- bradleyc4
Umberger is 7th on the team in ES icetime among forwards. Which puts him in the 3rd line category. Which is what he is. He is a veteran player adjusting to a new team. But judgements have already been made on the player, 5 games into the season.
- Overplaying/overvaluing Vinny Lecavalier
- bradleyc4
Only a 3 game sample, but Lecavalier ranks 11th on the team among forwards in ES icetime. And he's been primarily used in O zone starts and offensive situations. Which is exactly how he should be used. Still a good offensive player who has value to a team. So stating that he has been over played or over valued, is simply false.
- How he handles the goaltending starting assignments
- bradleyc4
Matter of opinion. I have no issue with how he handles the goaltending starts. But nitpicking is always present.
- Not giving Brayden Schenn more of an opportunity at 1LW
- bradleyc4
Brayden Schenn deserved to lose his spot at 1LW. At least temporarily. He wasn't skating hard, getting on the puck, or doing anything that you need a 1LW to do. So a message was sent. And not sure if you noticed or not, but the last two games, Schenn has ramped up his play, and was rewarded with 20 minutes of icetime. Which is a lot for a forward. Classis case of taking away icetime for poor play. And rewarding good play with icetime. QUality coaching by Berube there.
- Not giving Matt Read a chance at 1LW
- bradleyc4
I'd like to see Read get a shot there personally. But I'm not going to label it a mistake to leave a player in a spot and a role that he's been great at. And to label that as part of not getting the most out of a roster, is flawed. Because none of us know if he would be good in that role or not. So that is just speculation, and isn't a valid reason for stating that the coach is not getting the most out of the roster.
- Not putting Jason Akeson in more of an offensive role
- bradleyc4
Akeson is below other players on the depth chart. He has to earn icetime on another line. That's the way it is in the league for some players. And not uncommon. A player that the Flyers will face tonight, Patrick Sharpe started on the 4th line in the NHL. As did Carter and Richards. But apparently, Akeson is above that and too good for that.
- Not developing Sean Couturier's offensive game
- bradleyc4
Couturier is 21 years old. And we're 5 games into the season. Lots of season left for Couturier to develop his offensive game. So a bit premature here. And criticizing the Coach for the way he uses Couturier, with the roster the way it is, and the current state of the team defense, is silly. He doesn't have much choice. |

Absolutely. If they brought up another, more highly regarded prospect and benched Akeson, fine. - Jsaquella
Why would they bring up a highly regarded prospect at this point in time? With the team overall defensive game a mess? When they bring up Laughton, they want it to be for good. And there's no reason to bring him into that situation. Again, Akeson is being treated like he's an established NHL player. And that he is immune to sitting a game or two. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

Or, just keep Akeson in the lineup because he's been pretty solid thus far and should get a longer look. The 4th line looked fine with Akeson on it. It looked fine with VandeVelde. Why not keep using the guy who is younger and hasn't had an extended NHL stint over the older guy who has? - Jsaquella

Giving your worst even-strength players less even-strength icetime is a good plan in my books.
But I'm not an NHL head coach. - bradleyc4
The problem isn't the theory that giving your worst even strength player less is not a good plan. The problem is how you determine who is the worst even strength players.

I don't expect a coach or GM to be totally open with the media, but it's laughable how often Berube says one thing and does the opposite.
Two or three days before they waived Rosehill, Berube gave an expansive interview to one of the beats, talking about how enforcers still had a role, yada, yada, yada...when he got waived, Berube's tune was far different. - Jsaquella
Maybe that's just a clue to take what he says to the media with a grain of salt. And that he's not really going to tell them what he really thinks. I think Berube sometimes uses the media to send messages to players. Not really a fan of that, but it is what it is. Actions speak far louder then words.
