I am very happy to see that my 2nd favorite hockey team is up 2-1 at the end of the first period.

Anyone who knows me and has talked to me on here for years knows that I love bringing back former Flyers. Rick Tocchet, Mark Recchi, Simon Gagne, Brian Boucher, Mike Knuble, Ray Emery (Who I love) and yes, even Steve Downie. I still feel like we won in the Talbot/Downie trade because I feel we got the better and younger player. However, two former Flyers who we recently re-acquired that I wasn't thrilled of their return were Ruslan Fedotenko and RJ Umberger.

If I can be brutally honest, veteran 2 way players who are able to see free agency or are unwanted by their former team(s) are normally more known as defensive forwards. They've simply lost that offensive touch. The moment we signed Ruslan Fedotenko and Bruno Gervais, while letting Jagr walk and trading JvR for Luke Schenn, the shorten season to me was a write off. In my opinion, the Flyers are only as good as their offseason. Trading for Kyle Calder and signing both Geoff Sanderson and Randy Robitaille is an example of another bad off season.

To me trading Scott Hartnell (a first line player) for RJ Umberger (a third liner) isn't the best of hominids. I understand the mindset but I don't feel these two players are of equal value. I will admit that this team isn't nearly as bad as the 2006-2007 team or the 2012-2013 but trading away a productive forward 4 million forward for a less then productive 4 million player just because one has less years then the other isn't a great trade.

With this said, I'm more concerned with moving forward with youth. Trading Luke and/or Brayden Schenn isn't a thought in my mind right now. I'd rather be rid of the Lecavalier and Umberger contracts first.

JvR can score 60 goals this year and it won't get the stinkin' Leafs into the playoffs.

Sure but the Schenn for JvR trade will always be a bad one. We'd be a much better team with JvR. We under estimated what we had in him. I think JvR could absolutely score 40 at least once in his career.

There you go

My sandwich was tremendous, too

Oh, yeah: Flyers win tonight, 4-3. Don't know how they do it, but they get it done

Hartnell trade analysis so far - Flyers G/GP so far? 3.4...last year? 2.84; Flyers PIM/GP so far? 7...last year? 14.4. Scoring up, PIMs down

Still a fairly small sample size, but I'm thrilled that they are taking fewer penalties. It wasn't all Hartnell, but some of it was

No, we'd still have a substandard defensive corps and we'd have one more forward who is shaky in his own zone, albeit one who can put the puck in the net

He's good for 30; I can admit it. Still not sure about his heart, but yeah, he's probably good for 30

The problem with this team right now isn't goal scoring. It's inconsistent play, and defensive coverage.

Seems to me that the offside calls against the Flyers are almost nonexistent so far this year, too. Hartnell was always good for a few of those a week.

Well they could have went with Mike Arbuckle (who was running the Phillies drafts when he was here) as GM over Ruin Tomorrow Jr

That's the bigger screw up.

Little things like that mean a lot. The league is so close anymore. Anything you can do to help not beat yourself is a good thing
