Same for Downie on Wednesday.
- Feanor

Same if the Flyers are lucky. More likely stat line for Downie would be between 4-7 goals in the first 8 minutes of the game coupled with a lying leap (~85 inches off the ice) into Giroux and Voracek, knocking them both our for the season. 2 minute minor called on the play.

I find it strange that Berube is so quick to move B Schenn from the top line, but he'll keep combinations like Amac-Coburn and Schenn-VL-Simmonds together even if they aren't working.
- PhillySportsGuy

That, my friend, is referenced as a "short leash". And when it comes to Baby Schenn, I don't blame him one bit. I'm not a fan.

The top line wasn't working, so he switched Schenn with Raffl. And Raffl's puck pressure and pursuit helped the top line improve. They were getting throttled in the early season at 5 on 5. And Brayden Schenn since he has been removed from the top line, has responded with two very strong games. How many game exactly have MacDonald and Coburn played together as a pair this season? Same with the Schenn/Lecavalier/Simmonds line?
So let's ignore the improved results of the changes, and just find it strange.

Do they play on the same line?

At least with Coburn back Streit and McDonald shouldn't be switching sides all night long. I haven't seen much media comment on it, but it was bizarre, even for Berube.

- Feanor

Typically, no. It's usually Sharp-Toews-Hoss on the "top line" and then Kane on the "2nd line" with any combo of Saad, Shaw, Richards, Versteeg and maybe Bickell if he decides to show up that night

Versteeg is back in the lineup. Things are looking up!

Seriously though. Not many Hawks fans are pleased by his return. Some hoped for a set back.

Big test today for the Flyers

Another test to see if they can give up five goals again, and still win?

I know this might be an insane question, but is there any way Giroux gets shifted back to the wing? Only because I would really like to see G and Vorcheck on different lines, simply because they are both more affective with the puck on there stick. Maybe that would allow us to bring up Laughton, and give Coots more offensive weapons? I know offense isn't the problem, but a great offense could be our best defense.

Give up 4 goals, get 1 back, give up a quickie in the 2nd, score 4 times in the 3rd?

I think G and Voracek should be split up too.

But a simpler (ie. better) solution would be to drop Voracek to the 2nd line and keep G as 1C.

No. RW is where we have some real depth. If he was LW, the answer would still be no, but more viable. He's a premier NHL center, and it will stay that way.

Indeed, 2010 Versteeg was the exception to the rule, but that guy aint coming back

I fully expect him to burn the Flyers for the 3rd time (1st being 2010, 2nd being 2011 as a Flyer).

I don't know if the starter has been named yet but to me recent history would suggest that the Hawks are the better team. So far I think Emery has been better then Mason but that's in a small sample size. We're done with the "that's his old team" storyline. Tonight's game is the type of game your starter should start. I believe Emery saw the Hawks both times and Emery saw two of three games against Columbus (both in Nation Wide Arena), I don't feel this can happen. Get Mason these tough starts standing wise and mentally tough starts like facing his old team. I'd be more then confident to see Emery face the Pens tomorrow.

I'd rather Emery start tonight (he did have a fantastic game against them last time around) and give Mason the divisional start tomorrow. But that's just me.

But it will end up occurring on a shift where Kane controls the puck in the Flyers' zone for two full minutes before ripping a shot that deflects off of Versteeg's elbow and into the net.

I'm really not following, as these random punctuation marks and lack of sentence structure are slightly confusing, but I agree 100%.

Agreed on splitting Giroux and Voracek up, but I doubt Berube does it. Even if he does it won't last long. Look at Schenn on the top line...5 whole periods.

I'd like to see Giroux stay at center, drop Voracek down to RW with Schenn at center, or since they have to give him opportunities, Lecavalier at center.

Fair argument. I didn't even consider that Columbus is a division game and the Hawks are out of conference. Very good point.

Related yet totally unrelated question:

Is Patrick Kane the best purely offensive player in the NHL? I wouldn't have even mentioned it 2-3 years ago, but now, is he?
