giroux and mason may both be fried and/or gone by then. time will tell. hopefully, if mason doesn't hold up, stolarz will be ready. - hammarby31
I don't see this as rosy of a comeback as it was after the season when they drafted JVR.
They had an amazing FA class that year to choose from and a poop load of cap space. Those days are dead.
I just really want it for Giroux. Thrust into a position he should never have been in so young when the organization learned nothing by doing the same to Richards. The poster boy and good soldier other than grabbing some ass. Its a little sad to see his best years wasted because of some moron at the top that (frank)ed the organization into the ground for years. |

I mentioned this to Hammarby before. Any chance of Mason becoming anything is at serious risk here. - wilsonecho91
it all depends on mason's attitude and mindset. if he already accepts and believes he will be on the losing end most nights through no fault of his own, and can just work on his game without the results being an issue, he'll be ok. if he can't navigate this likely reality emotionally, then it could ruin him. |

I don't think we see it happen. They are too proud of an organization.
I am not sure of the cap implications, but I'd lose no sleep over buying out 1-5 guys on the squad. Send the damn message. One can dream I suppose. |

the team continually goes through these 5 year cycles where they're competitive but ultimately turn over much of the roster by then, and the truly talented players waste their talents by the time the cycle has run its course. i'm generalizing here obviously.
i bet gagne is thanking the heavens he didn't get re-signed here and is now on a legit contender. the year off probably did him some good.

You want my true no BS theory?
I don't see poop changing until Snider is dead and this old boy club motto is gone with him, which may not even happen. That would include Holmgren.
For all of the wonderful promise with the d prospects, they are not in sync with the age and development phase of the forwards. This team isn't growing together, its hoping the back end catches up to the forwards.
I picture them like the Hawks before the change of the men at the top. (frank)ed up because this was a team I used to cheer hard for. Now I partly don't mind to see them suffer because through their stupidity they deserve to have reality shoved up their ass.

it will be interesting to see how the team's future unfolds after snider is gone. there's no guarantee all the flyers of the 70s-90s will be washed from management, coaching, and scouting.

Tradition doesn't have to be let go. There is nothing wrong with hanging on to the Broad Street Bullies.
Being a team that is physical and plays the game on the edge with a lunchpail attitude. The current squad is impotent. |

I think another loss tonight will lead to some changes. I don't think they will fire Berube, but I think they will either make a trade or bring up Laughton or one of Hagg/Ghost/Manning/Alt.
And I honestly think having Lecavalier back sometime next week will be a help. |

There might be a team meeting or some minor shuffling.
Last night was really the first loss where they were not in the game when the third period rolled around. Things like that happen when a mediocre team plays an elite team-and the elite team has not just a good game, but also some very good puck luck.
That said, they might do something like bring up Laughton, but I still doubt it. They know that they have flaws, knew it before the season began. I don't think Hexy abandons his plan to make a quick change |

Hextall can keep his plan of patience with the prospects, however he has to do something with this current team. Can't have efforts like last night much longer. What happens if they get shelled in Pitt tonight, because chances are with our D it will be a mess. A good trade ( Schenn bros) and some minor adjustments will help. Raffl must be moved from first line |

That one wasn't a whole lot of fun to watch, but I'm sure Hextall is still observing and evaluating.
I think you're right and this team is what it's going to be for the foreseeable future.

So last night was just a pain to watch. Things that came to mind while watching.
- Matt Read has been "meh" for me this year. I don't know what it is. Can't say he has been bad but can't say he has been good either. Not sure what it is.
- Couturier seemed like he was engaged. I saw him numerous times one on one with Toews trying to be physicval with him almost trying to get him to fight and maybe spark the team. Yes I want him to score and engage that way but he seemed like he was trying anything to get this team going.
- Schenn and his line didn't seem to be noticable last night.
- Defense gets us hemmed in because we can't make an accurate outlet pass and when we do the forwards bobble it.
- I am starting to feel like it might be time to make some sort of move that allows our roster to start fitting together better. Maybge we can get back a natural winger or young dman to grow with our group. Names I can think of as examples:
Burmistrov
Bogossian
Gormley
Skinner
Sekera
Myers
Faligno
E.Kane
Just things that I thought of while watching the game |
